Sanda and Biran Greeve were siblings destined for greatness. A high-flying sergeant, Sanda has the skills to take down any enemy combatant. Biran is a savvy politician who aims to use his new political position to prevent conflict from escalating to total destruction. However, on a routine maneuver, Sanda loses consciousness when her gunship is blown out of the sky. Instead of finding herself in friendly hands, she awakens 230 years later on a deserted enemy warship controlled by an AI who calls himself Bero. The war is lost.

Couldn't finish it
Revisado: 11-24-21
I'm a big fan of military SF and obsessive about finishing books, but I just couldn't make it past the half-way point of this audio book even with the speed turned to 1.25. The narrator was very disappointing. One of the main characters is voiced as if he pinched his nose in a childish, irritating tone. The rest have the same voice. The three-part parallel story doesn't hold together and the characters aren't believable. At one point I thought it might be a YA title, but the language doesn't support that theory. I wish I liked it, but I just couldn't.

Just Another James McGill Story
Revisado: 03-09-21
Clearly, as I've listened to 14 of these books, I like the stories. However, I was hoping for more. These books have become like old TV serials - at the end of the episode nothing has changed, and you could listen to them in any order. The earlier books moved the overall plot forward while following the "planet of the week" format, but the latest ones are just one forgettable story after another. I know this is probably a cash cow for Larson and he has no incentive to get to the end, but come on! Give us something new!

The mission is simple. Escort an emissary to an intergalactic peace summit. Try not to get in the way. Lt. Magnus and his 79th Recon Team have certainly handled worse, after all. But when an explosion rocks the tower and sends everyone into a panic, Magnus and his asset find themselves cut off from the rest of the team. Worse still, a dying alien chieftain gives them a priceless drive of intel, marking them for death. The mission has officially changed. With enemies on all sides, Magnus must do everything in his power to protect the emissary and escape the tower.

It's a YA Star Wars Knock Off
Revisado: 03-09-21
I like military Sci-Fi and, being a living, breathing person, I love RC Bray, so I was excited to listen to "Ruins of the Galaxy." However, I'm not a Star Wars fan (I like Sci Fi, not fantasy - to each his own) and within 30 minutes it was clear that the book was Star Wars fan fiction. The Republic, helmeted Republic soldiers, magicians that use the force - sorry - the "one of all things." Too many alien species to keep up with. It's just Star Wars told from a stormtrooper's perspective.
That said, I could have made my way through it, but it's FULL of nonsense words to make up for any semblance of a plot - foods, places, ships, technology - the list goes on and on. Drop a coffee cup on the keyboard and there's the new nonsense word for "hamburger."
If you like Star Wars fan fiction and fantasy, you might love this book. However, it you like Sci Fi, especially if you like "hard" Sci Fi, this is not your book.
HOWEVER - RC Bray is as fantastic as ever!

Transitional Story
Revisado: 01-17-21
This was the first ExForce audio book that I didn't start over as soon as I was done the first time. It's a necessary transitional story, but its also much less interesting than the previous books. The first and last 25% were good, but the stuff in the middle was a slog. I think Craig was setting up for the last books, so I'll give him a pass on this one.

Historia
An AI overseer and a human crew arrive on a distant planet to salvage an ancient UN starship. The overseer is unhappy. The crew, well, they're certainly no A-team. Not even a C-team on the best of days. And worse? Urmahon Beta, the planet, is at the ass-end of nowhere. Everybody expects this to be a long, ugly, and thankless job. Then it all goes disastrously wrong. What they thought was an uninhabited backwater turns out to be anything but empty.

Audiobooks are Not Nathan Fillion's Strong Suit
Revisado: 11-10-20
The story isn't bad but you've read it many times before (unprepared group stumbles on vastly powerful alien), with the addition of inscrutable poetry (not a plus). However, I was looking forward to hearing Nathan Fillion read it. I was disappointed. I'm a big fan (Castle, The Rookie, and - of course - Firefly). However, that bedroom voice doesn't do well as an audiobook reader. He drops into an almost whisper that's very hard to discern, especially in a noisy environment like a car. I kept having to rewind and turn up the volume to catch words. Most of the reading is in a monotone, like reading to a child that you're trying to get to fall asleep. That plus the unimaginative story is a bad combination. My recommendation is to go rewatch Serenity to get your Fillion fix instead listening to this book.

Historia
Following his mission on Cappa, Colonel Carl Butler returns to a mixed reception. To some, he is a do-or-die war hero. To the other half of the galaxy, he’s a pariah. Forced into retirement, he has resettled on Talca Four where he’s now Deputy VP of Corporate Security, protecting a high-tech military company on the corporate battlefield - at least, that’s what the job description says. Really, he’s just there to impress clients and investors. It’s all relatively low risk - until he’s entrusted with new orders.

Historia
In the spring of 1903, the 311, known to locals as “The Majestic”, carried more than 100 passengers on board toward a tunnel mouth that would allow the 13-car locomotive to pass safely through the underbelly of the Canadian Rockies. The tunnel swallowed the 311 whole, and the train - and everyone on it - were never seen again.

Revisado: 09-21-20
I'm not a fan of fantasy or horror, but I love the sweet tones of RC Bray, so I gave this a try. Started out interesting: good characters, great voicing by RCB. But half way through it was just the same thing over and over. Try as I might, I couldn't face the last half and called it quits. That's very unusual for me.
If you like fantasy or horror, you might love this book. But if not and are looking it because of the narration by RCB, I recommend you keep looking.
