Historia
The Yada Yada Prayer Group was "gettin' down" with God in prayer and praise one night when a heroin-crazed woman barged into my house, demanded our valuables, and threatened us with a 10-inch knife. We wondered if we'd ever get back to normal after this terrifying experience. I assumed we would. After all, we'd started praying together at the Chicago Women's Conference last spring, and we'd been through a lot already as spiritual sisters. This was just one more hurdle to conquer, right?

Life is full enough without supernatural beings, murders and the like. This novel is full of life - to the max !! The narrative is excellent! It's a must read.

Here, McLaren captures a new spirit of a relevant Christianity, where traditional divisions and doctrinal differences give way to a focus on God and the story of God's love for this world. If you are searching for a deeper life with God - one that moves beyond the rhetoric of denominational and theological categories - this delightful and inspiring fictional tale will provide a picture of what it could mean to recapture a joyful spiritual life.

The Story We Find Ourselves in
Revisado: 10-09-10
The narrator of this book did a great job. He was able to capture an Austrailian accent and in the next breath speak with a Jamaican accent with all the natural inflections. The story however was very disappointing. It seems the author was trying to espouse his interpretation of biblical principles, using this fictional volume as a conveyance. I am a Christian and there were several points with which I felt he twisted what the bible really says in view of his own personal opinions. This was done with just enough truth implanted within as to confuse someone who was really seeking biblical truth. Also there were several social scenes which I found in poor taste. Perhaps it's possible to scan a written copy before committing to this work.

This novel starts off slow, in narration and content, but quickly captures your attention. The end result is thought provoking. It is well worth your time.

Historia
Jane Whitefield is a Native American guide who leads solitary outcasts through hostile territory to escape the vengeance of their enemies. But the shaded forest paths her Seneca ancestors might have followed on such missions have all been converted to superhighways, and now the safest way stations are crowded urban buildings that offer the camouflage of anonymity. Still, the supply of runaways - and the need for a woman who will take great risks to save them - have never been greater.

Profanity and crude language really ruin a read for me. This was introduced in the first few minutes of the read and I decided not to continue. Someone who is less sensitive might enjoy it.

This book is earmarked for children, however, it is in no way a juvenile read. The children who are the characters in this novel experience situations that an adult would confront, given the same set of circumstances, in their pursuit to find a home for themselves and keep their family together. There is the refreshing absence of dirty language and obscene material. I recommend the read for ages 10 and above.

The genuine compassion of this vet for his patients and their owners remain intact in spite of an occasional candid profanic utterance from the pet owners or a realistic sharing of the environmental conditions in the neighborhood of the animal clinic. It is written along the lines of James Herriot's "All Creatures Great and Small", minus the large animals.

This book was excellent. I personally prefer adventure rather than romance in an audio book. This novel had adventure in the form of suspense, drama, expectant hope and a slowly growing love, not obviously romance, between two of the main characters. It turned out to be a budding romance after all but it was so surreptitiously done that it did not become the main focus of the book but rather a hopeful avenue that they might pursue. Very well done.

Historia
With these audacious and murderously witty stories, Donald Barthelme threw the preoccupations of our time into the literary equivalent of a Cuisinart and served up a gorgeous salad of American culture, high and low. Here are the urban upheavals reimagined as frontier myth; travelogues through countries that might have been created by Kafka; cryptic dialogues that bore down to the bedrock of our longings, dreams, and angsts.

I didn't realize that this book was a non-Christian work of fiction. I didn't get past the first few paragraphs which included the concept of God having died and therefore the angels (in heaven??) had to find out how to exist on their own. Someone from a non-Christian background might enjoy it.

As always Frank Peretti delivered a very engaging novel. I lost momentum with the character at times when he started to experience prophetic visions but the overall concept was very good. Also I would like to have known the results of the work that was done by all those striving to bring about truth and justice to the situation at hand.
