Historia
Samantha is a professional seductress and con artist with a heart of gold. If she talked about her work, she’d tell you she only pilfers organs for medical research and that she only takes one kidney, and she only steals those kidneys from dishonest people. It’s hell on her social life. Abe is the doctor and Sam's partner in crime. He isn’t much of a criminal. Except for the kidney stealing. But he’s using that money to fund his research that he anticipates will be able to cure diabetes. So, all for a good cause...? You decide. Of course, it's hell on his social life.

only got it because it was free
Revisado: 03-07-20
I only got it because it was one of the free ones for the month but I found out it was totally worth paying for. The storyline sounded kind of rediculous (okay, it is rediculous) but it totally worked. The characters were totally likable. If you are a fan of The Good Place, check this audible original out. Maybe good and bad is a grayer area than we think.

Love me some JT
Revisado: 03-05-20
James Taylor is the greatest singer/songwriter ever, imho, but his narration leaves a bit to be desired. It was worth the listen for the music and for the few stories I didnt't know but it wasn't the most compelling of storytelling (interesting for someone who tells a story with every song) . I am glad I listened to it but had I not read the reviews my expectations would have been way too grand for this little audiobook. I guess it's good to know JT isn't perfect at everything. ;)

My least favorite WW II book ever
Revisado: 02-22-20
I can't believe how many stars this has. It was SO slow and contrived. The characters took 28 chapters to figure out the most obvious "plot twist" ever imagined. I know it was a different time and the British are known for their "stiff upper lip" but if I had to read one more "we better not do anything about this, it's none of our buisness" I think I would scream. The parts that were directly related to the war were totally glossed over and major things that happened took no time at all but the same arguments and discussions over and over and over again with the same words in the same spot took for ever. Ugh. I wish I hadn't wasted my time on this when I could have been listening to something else. The narrator was fine for what she was reading but I sure didn't get lost in this story. I just wanted them to hurry up and get it over with. Since I usually basically mourn after reading most historical fiction books (I usually want to know more and I am sad to not be able to continue the story) maybe that's a good thing but I would not recommend this book to anyone.

WWII different perspective
Revisado: 12-23-18
I am a WW II book fanatic so it always surprises me to read a book talking about something I really didn’t know much of anything about. I lived in Mobile, AL yet I never even knew about the German subs in the area during WW II. This books was fascinating, gripping, and well narrated by the author.

Great story and great narration
Revisado: 04-01-18
I have a long commute and listen to a lot of audio-books. My last two were just so-so and the narration was seriously lackluster so I was really happy to come across this one and remember what good narration was. The characters were so well written and it would have been a shame if the narrators hadn’t been able to “bring them to life” but they clearly did. This could have been any small town with a host of interesting and believable characters and the small town mysteries were intriguing and kept you guessing. Makes the commute go extra fast. I’d love a second book to follow up on some of the younger characters as they get older.

This book is amazing!
Revisado: 09-10-17
I got this book because audible recommended it. I wasn't sure I would like it and I didn't like it, I LOVED it. Couldn't keep it just to the car because I had to finish it. The characters are so real and there are some great plot twists all along the way. The narrator was really good and he brought the story to life. Ove is one lovable curmudgeon and you will want to dig in to find out why. This is a book that can change the way you look at people and make you a better person.

JoJo Moyes fan
Revisado: 05-04-17
I have loved every JoJo Moyes book I have ever read or listened to. This one took me a little longer to fall in love with than most (I didn't like the characters as much at first as I usually do in one of her books) but I am so glad I kept at it. One of my favorite endings. Also, Fiona Hardingham was a fantastic narrator.

People are crazy!
Revisado: 04-12-17
I read a bunch of reviews saying this book was not any good and how much better Me Before You was and wasn't sure if I should bother with it. Those people must be extremely hard to please. I loved both books, no need to compare the two. Heck, I hope there is a third one to follow up this one. Jojo Moyes is a brilliant writer. I was laughing hysterically one minute and crying uncontrollably the next. Anna Acton was also a great narrator who brought Jojo Moyes amazing characters to life. I am glad I didn't rely on all the other reviews and skip this book!

Historia
Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

5+stars!
Revisado: 04-02-17
I would give this more than 5 stars if I could. This book was truly amazing and the performance was one of the best I have ever heard. I was a bit surprised when listening to the author talk about the book afterwards because I didn't see some of the things he said he hinted at throughout the book. What I did see was characters that came alive and became like friends. I saw a story line that shockingly kept you wondering from start to finish while still giving you lots of information up front. I highly recommend the book and because the narrator is so good at bringing all of the characters to life, I would especially recommend the audio version. Because I commute 6 days a week for several hours a day, I listen to a lot of audio books. It's rare that I listen to one over 26 hours long and wish it could be longer. I will suggest that you listen to the last 20-30 minutes with a big box of Kleenex and not in the car but the crying is worth it and you don't feel cheated by an ending that is much more sad.

Revisado: 03-13-17
Jojo Moyers always writes a great book. Amazing characters, great story line, and intriguing until the end. It was hard to stop listening and I was sad when it was over. The narrators were also really good and brought the story to life.
