Historia
Tracing the extraordinary trajectory of Julius Caesar's life, Adrian Goldsworthy covers not only the great Roman emperor's accomplishments as charismatic orator, conquering general, and powerful dictator but also lesser-known chapters. Ultimately, Goldsworthy realizes the full complexity of Caesar's character and shows why his political and military leadership continues to resonate some 2,000 years later.

I have listened to all 15 books in this series, and this ending could not have been more enthralling. Mr. Turney gave a whole new perspective on the Ides of March. The narration was brilliant as always by Malik Williams. I will miss Fronto: such a great protagonist, as well as his companions. Roma Invicta!

A well done historical fiction!
Revisado: 04-20-20
I chose this book without any great expectations. It delivered a thoroughly enjoyable listen. The author did a great job of weaving a personal story within historical fiction. The narrator was excellent and aptly drove the tale to its conclusion. I highly recommend the listen for any fan of early England's history.

The Charles Todd team delivers once again!
Revisado: 03-02-20
Charles Todd's character of Ian Rutledge never fails to please me. This book was full of surprises and was cleverly developed. Simmon Prebble is the perfect narrator for the novel and delivers Ian Rutledge as no other narrator could. If you are even slightly curious about post-WWI England, start by listening to the first novel. You will probably become as addicted to the series as I have. If you have already listened to the series, the latest entry is as enticing a listen as any.

Historia
In the year 937, the new king of England, a grandson of Alfred the Great, readies himself to go to war in the north. His dream of a united kingdom of all England will stand or fall on one field - on the passage of a single day. At his side is the priest Dunstan of Glastonbury, full of ambition and wit (perhaps enough to damn his soul). His talents will take him from the villages of Wessex to the royal court, to the hills of Rome - from exile to exaltation.

An outstanding account of early English history!
Revisado: 03-02-20
I chose to listen to this book based on the intriguing prospect of the title. I was extremely surprised at the extent to which I enjoyed the novel. Conn Iggulden blends fiction with historical accuracy that drives the book through the life of Dunstan. The character is rich in personality and John Curless's narration feels like the words of Dunstan himself. The lives of the monks, common folk and the Royal Court of early England is very informative. The novel sheds light on an almost unknown part of history. For that alone, it is well worth the listen.

What a difference a narrator makes

A decent follow up to the Redbreast
Revisado: 06-04-19
The real problem I had with this audible title was I have become spoiled by the narration of Robin Sachs and John Lee. This narrator does not compare. The story is saved by the unique twist of the gypsy enclave in Norway and throughout Europe being entangled into the drama. As usual, Harry Hole is drowning in his own self-destructive alcohol infused behavior, but we find ourselves drawn to the protagonist and rooting for his redemption. Since there is no such thing as a bad Nesbo novel, I am sure the listener will enjoy the experience despite the narration.
