Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Heartwarming

Reminded me that even when things aren't how they're "supposed" to be, life can be sweet. It just made my heart happy.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE NARRATOR?!?
Revisado: 11-21-23
I really liked the first 2 books and loved the warmness of the narrator. She was truly believable as a 50 something, sassy widow. (Almost conjured images of Mary Poppins). WHY would anyone switch to this 20 something, whiney narrator?? Shaking my head, and returning this book.

Historia
P. G. Wodehouse's famed collection of 10 stories marks the reappearance of many old friends - who find themselves in delightfully absurd situations. In "How's That, Umpire?", a mutual hatred of cricket reunites two lovers. In "Birth of a Salesman", Lord Emsworth has strayed from Blandings Castle to become an encyclopedia salesman for a day. "Success Story" tells of Ukridge's finest swindle yet - after which he finally emerges triumphant in the struggle against his fearsome aunt Julia.

Meh
Revisado: 10-12-22
I have fallen in love with PG Wodehouse, but these short stories were not as clever or entertaining as others I've read. Maybe I'm just partial to Jeeves and Bertie Wooster and the shenanigans at Blandings Castle... these stories just fell flat.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

Loved the story... and George Guidall is memorizing. I found myself "snapping out of a dream" at times.

Historia
A coming-of-age tale for the young and naïve 17-year-old Catherine Morland, Northanger Abbey takes a decidedly comical look at themes of class, family, love and literature. Revelling in the sensationalist - and extremely popular - Gothic fiction of her day, the story follows Catherine out of Bath to the lofty manor of the Tilneys, where her overactive imagination gets to work constructing an absurd and melodramatic explanation for the death of Mrs Tilney, which threatens to jeopardise her newly forged friendships.

Emma Thompson ~ Need I say more?
Revisado: 11-07-18
I wasn't so sure about the dramatized rendition. However, it was fun. The actors did a great job, and the background "soundtrack" made you feel you were right there watching. And, of course, Emma Thompson was brilliant as always! She brings charm, wit, and warmth to everything she does. She is the perfect narrator!
