Historia
When modern-day occultist Aaron Pace discovers the secrets of inter-dimensional travel via a mystical pathway called The Labyrinth, he wastes no time in exploring a multitude of strange new worlds and alternate realities. But then, Aaron finds himself trapped in the most bizarre dimension of all - a place where dinosaurs coexist with giant robots, where cowboys fight reptilian lizard people, and where even the grass can kill you. This is a world populated by the missing and the disappeared, a world where myth is reality and where the extinct is reborn.

Narrators grated on my nerves real badly
Revisado: 03-16-21
The story itself was not bad. But, without a good narrator it falls flat. It sounded robotic with no life to it and reminded me of one of those movies with bad acting.
It needs a better narrator.

Had lots of promise to be original, but
Revisado: 11-14-19
It was not horrible, horrible but some of it was incredibly predictable especially at the end. I love horror fiction and sometimes things tend to end similar and I'm not one for happy endings so much as a good resolutions to stories. There has been a plague of so so writing to bad writing. I thought it was rather original but things were put in there for shock value, cruelness where people do outlandish things with no consequence that is rational or within the scope of the story. Actually, the scope of the story itself was never really established so some things happened, then some more things happened and the ending was a sneaking obvious one.
It maybe worth a read for some people but it just got to be too much as the story went on.

Rumors of a deadly book have been floating around the dark corners of the deep web. It is a disturbing tale about a mysterious figure who preys on those who read the book and subjects them to a world of personalized terror. Jesse Wheeler - former guitarist of the heavy metal group the Rising Dead - was quick to discount the ominous folklore associated with the book. It takes more than some urban legend to frighten him. Hell, reality is scary enough.

Desparetly needs another narrator
Revisado: 03-12-19
I really could not finish this one because the narrator was depressing, grating and made me want to wash out my ears and brain with bleach. I understand creating atmosphere but this guy wasn't animated at all. It really made the story very bad because it's toneless or maybe that is what the author wanted and if that is the case, I will never buy another audiobook from this author ever.
It grated on my nerves and really took away from anything and everything the story had to offer. If I would give a negative review, I would.

I could have gotten this story from John Hagee
Revisado: 02-27-19
I usually really like Brian Keene's books. BUT, this book reminds me of the Rapture People and all of their nonsense. He said it was from a "secular point of view" and yet I think it's the same old crap that I've had to endure for many, many years. I hated this book, For anyone who has ever been traumatized as a kid or adult using anything religious then you might want to avoid this one.
For all those who are fans of the Rapture, Tribulation or the Left Behind series/movies/whatever, then this is right up your alley. .

I've seen this episode and read this story before
Revisado: 02-02-19
Hi, I'm Patrick and I got a degree but prefer not to use it and become a cop instead. I got shot on the job and decided to move to my wife's hometown with my in laws. It's an odd kind of town with lots of backwards people with some strange thinking. My partner keeps saying things and making these ominous statements but won't tell me what he's talking about, and I'm okay with it because, you know, I'm a taco short of a combo plate.. I keep repeating how I want to spend more time with my family and yet I don't see them that often because I work nights. Also, weird things keep happening weekly if not almost daily involving my son and I blow it all off to moving stress. Why? I don't know, I guess because in the tool shed, I'm like a rusted and dull saw.
My partner, who is a rather disgusting man, keeps telling me to ignore the creepy things we keep seeing these strange things that are similar to what my son described but I go along because I really am becoming quite the idiot. The local librarian one day just comes up to me, also makes an ominous comment and tells me to come see him at the library, he's all nervous but I ignore it and just live in denial because life is better that way.
One day, the local vet calls and I see what looks like some monster is ripping apart a cow so I shoot it then it comes after the vet and rips him apart and while I try to save him my partner yells at me, then some demon like creature, the same ones my son had talked about the day we arrived here, and I am beginning to have suspensions and going to the library, but not now. Weird things are still happening to my son, but it's just the stress of moving even though it's been months now.
Little do I know, but my wife knows all about what's gong to happen and doesn't tell me. She home schooled our son for some weird reason and I will understand all of this at the last moment. I see the librarian again and think about going, but I don't. I do keep thinking about the ominous comment he made and how nervous he was, but I'm not smart enough to take action. Then one day I go there and while he is obviously trying to tell me something, I just ignore it and go back to my state of total denial.
Finally, I find out my son will have to die and he's happy about it, so is my wife and the town and even threaten the librarian who has been trying to help me instead of focusing the anger on who really deserves it because at this point I have gone past the point of idiot and am full blown moron.
I do mange to stop it in the nick of time and we all found out it was all a bunch of lies and the killing of all those boys was for nothing, my wife and her family were in on it, encouraged it, so what do I do? Nothing, me and my stupid, small minded wife don't talk about it and I'm sure it will all be okay in the end and my son won't develop any suicidal or homicidal thoughts or feelings and will just stuff it all down and it might explode, but I'm still living in complete denial because I've now gone beyond moron into a barely thinking man and have now become a total sheep and have that heard mentality. Nice to meet you. Bye now.

Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Historia
Brilliant summers amid golden fields. Killing winters of razorlike cold. A peaceful, neighborly village, darkened by legends of death? Who is Nathaniel? For 100 years, the people of Prairie Bend have whispered the name in wonder and fear. Some say he is simply a folk tale - a legend created to frighten children on cold winter nights. Some swear he is a terrifying spirit returned to avenge the past. And soon...very soon...some will come to believe that Nathaniel lives still - darkly, horrifyingly real. Nathaniel.

Thought the Unabridged would be much better
Revisado: 03-27-18
The Narrator was great and did a good job so this is no reflection on her. I was familiar with this in the abridged version and I felt that some important things were being left out. While the unabridged version did provide some more details, the story still lacked purpose and still fell apart in closure and presentation and left more questions than anything else.
As much as I like endings where it leaves you guessing, this one leaves you guessing throughout and not in a good way. It drags on and on and does not deliver or explain the why, how and what of the main title character and never answers any questions that I feel needed to be answered before the last act and they weren't. I feel if it would have made clearer connections with the characters then the ending would have been better.
I am a fan of John Saul but he does have a habit of doing this to the reader. It's one thing to leave a couple lingering questions, however leaving many lingering questions and an open ending just makes for a frustrating listen.

Thanks but no thanks, hard to rate
Revisado: 02-12-18
It was interesting from the point of view of switching the character's genders. What I did not like is that I was having to listen to a story that I have already heard before. The rewrite for the original story really does not work for me and I did not really want to listen to the same story with some more details.
The story itself was not really that bad, good actually and was the only story I wanted. I did not want the rest of it. Thanks but no thanks.

Can't rate the story due to the narrator
Revisado: 01-30-18
I feel there's a story in there somewhere, but the narrator was pretty bad. He did the dialogue very well but the actual telling of the story was pretty bad. He sounded robotic and it reminded me of an understudy to an understudy who was never given a script but has to fill in because the lead and the understudy both got hit by cars. The small piece is not good enough to really tell if it will be good narration.
Truthful story rating = I'm not sure

I really hope that the rest of this series will be available on Audible because I want to know just what happens from these events. I liked the story though it was sad at times. Michael Pauley did a pretty good job with the narration, so I have no complaints.
Funny things about strong emotions, they can take on a life of their own in very bad ways. I really want to know how they play out.
