Historia
On November 6, 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the fluky victor in a tight race for president. The country was bitterly at odds; Southern extremists were moving ever closer to destroying the Union, with one state after another seceding and Lincoln powerless to stop them. Slavery fueled the conflict, but somehow the passions of North and South came to focus on a lonely federal fortress in Charleston Harbor: Fort Sumter.

Another great book Mr. Larson
Revisado: 09-30-24
Excellent piece of historical writing. Not surprising based on the Author's previous work. Learned and reinforced the following:
1. Slavery was THE factor for the civil war. Disregard the apologetic attempts to focus on "state rights" and similar false narratives.
2. President Buchanan and his administration shot to being near the top of the worst Presidents in history (sharing company with Bush Jr , Trump, Nixon, etc.) Their cowardice, willful ignorance, and traitorous behavior ushered in the horrific civil war.
3. Major Anderson (commander of Fort Sumter) had guts and showed military smarts when it came to dealing with an impossible situation.

It’s the end of the world as you've never known it. Join the Librarian as he does his best to make the post-apocalyptic world a better place by protecting the weak, fighting injustice, squaring off against a group of former renaissance fair workers who have established a kingdom in the Rocky Mountains, and so on. Can one man make a difference in the face of such murderous cannibals and super smart bears? Probably not.

excellent first two books and then awful third book in this series
Revisado: 06-29-24
Did the same author who wrote the first two books write the third one? The first two were fun and surprising page turners. The third one was a dreadful overwritten slog. I almost stopped listening a few times. If you want to finish the series recommend skipping the entire third book except for the last hour or so... BTW the Narrator did a good job telling the story

A story that allows you to cheer for the monsters
Revisado: 08-22-23
Pleasantly surprised the author didn't go for a typical ending. Best horror story In years. Despicable characters that get what's coming ;-) but still provides a little sliver of hope.

Nice to have Finn back in action
Revisado: 06-21-22
A good follow-up to Steel Fear. While it isn't necessary to have had the previous book you will understand some of the reference points better if you have. The story moves briskly, great new characters introduced, and the descriptions of Iceland and it's culture are very interesting. Some of the plot pieces and devices toward the end don't all make sense (dont passports have holographic anti forgery tech now?) it still is a heck of an enjoyable read and I look forward to the authors next book.

WOW. Took a shot in the dark (pun intended) on this vampire story and I am glad I did. Amazing production values, good story, and wonderful performances. I didn't see some of the twists coming and liked how they even joked about some of the logic gaps, etc. Hope to see the second part of this soon.

Historia
Ataegina was an isolated world of medieval castles, varied cultures, and conquests, vibrant until the demons rose and spread relentless destruction. Swarms of lethal creatures with black husks, murderous claws, barbed tails, and dreaded “tooth-tongues” raged through the lowlands, killing 90 percent of the planet’s population. Terrified survivors fled to hidden mountain keeps where they eke out a meager existence. When a trio of young warriors discovers a new weapon, they see a chance to end this curse. To save humanity, they must fight.

One of the best Aliens books
Revisado: 05-04-21
Love when an author takes risk and boy did this book take a big one. Well outside what we may normally get in the Aliens universe this book is filled with fresh ideas, memoriable characters, and nonstop excitement. The author did a nice job with the world building and he created one of the best new heroine characters outside of Ripley herself. It's a cliche but getting a book like this on the screen would be so much more interesting than some of the recent attempts at Alien based movies. Highly recommend this book.

Historia
Once every year, in the city of Sunja, gladiators meet in the arena known as Sunja’s Pit. Some are lured there by the prospect of fortune or fame; others come simply for the thrill of the fight. The games continue for days, until a champion is crowned—or all involved perish. When it becomes clear that to be a Free Trained pit fighter is to live with a mark on one’s head, four warriors struggle to change their lot, both in and out of the arena. But that’s easier said than done, and not everyone is pleased to learn of their plans.

Shockingly Awesome
Revisado: 05-04-21
I am flabbergasted. This book was way better than I thought it would be. Not only did the author bring the Gladiator combat to life but he also mixed in world building, character development, and political intrigue. Took a moment to get use to the narrator's style but even that turned out to be great. Highly recommend.

Did IQs suddenly drop?
Revisado: 04-19-21
RC Bray still brings a phenomenal performance but unlike the previous books in this chapter there are many uncharacteristic logic mistakes with characters not making sound decisions. examples: a super scifi limo that Collie never tells anyone how to operate?, why mention that the little girl may be special and never deal with it again, wouldn't someone have just killed the Spider about 3 times, why would Collie not just shoot the tires out when he escapes in a regular pick-up, would have been nice to have the big bad suffer more in their death scene, not giving a gun to Top Gun gets ridiculous, etc. Also we the series continues to get more and more littered with homophobic slurs, unnecessary. Still, there is good humor sprinkled about and the action is nonstop. Hopefully the next in the series will fix some of these opportunities and be as awesome as the rest of the books.
