Fully developed characters in an interesting story. Leaves room fo a sequel. One of Robyn Carr’s best.

Pirates?
Revisado: 04-22-19
With the knowledge and understanding that I am reading Chick Lit, and that this is the eighth book in the series, I began this book with an expectation of suspended belief.
This novel stretched the believable fictional boundaries for me. The plot flexed into a high-seas period novel. This is a contemporary novel, the evildoers shouldn’t have been cast as pirates. The hero who dragged himself "home" scarred and partially blind should have taken the pseudonym Mr. Rochester. Read this one fast. The next one is better.

Historia
Maddy is a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother, host of excellent parties, giver of thoughtful gifts, and bestower of a searingly perceptive piece of advice or two. She is the cornerstone of her family, a true matriarch...until she commits suicide, leaving her husband Brady and teenage daughter Eve heartbroken and reeling, wondering what happened. How could the exuberant, exacting woman they loved disappear so abruptly, seemingly without reason, from their lives? How they can possibly continue without her?

The death of the central character shouldn’t keep you from reading this book. It is about the lives of the people she left. It is worth a read

Jesus Christ is our savior.
Revisado: 07-16-17
I am very familiar with this genre, I expected Christian undertow to this book and a morality story. What I received was a Christian steamroller and all character development around accepting Jesus.
This book was so heavy handed with biblical quotes and stories that it overwhelmed the weak plot.

Historia
Elmwood Springs, Missouri, is a small town like any other, but something strange is happening out at the cemetery. Still Meadows, as it's called, is anything but still. Funny and profound, this novel in the tradition of Flagg's Can't Wait to Get to Heaven and Thornton Wilder's Our Town deals with universal themes of heaven and earth and everything in between, as Flagg tells a surprising story of life, afterlife, and the mysterious goings-on of ordinary people.

Spoiler - Everybody dies
Revisado: 12-16-16
Let me preface this with I typically love Fannie Flag Books. (The All Girls Filling Station’s Last Reunion is an all-time favorite), but this one not so much. The book follows a village worth of people over a hundred years, from the cradle to the grave, and doesn’t develop in character or plot.
Plus some of the details of the decades are just wrong. Take your daughter to work day was established in 1992!
Worth a read, yes but only because it is Fannie Flag.

Treading Water- Recorded Underwater?
Revisado: 07-23-13
The story line was expected and somewhat unbelievable. About par with the other stories in the romance genre. MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT was the quality of the recording. Many of the chapters had the same kind of hiss common in the old cassette days. Not worth the price for the quality of the recording alone.

I finished the book wanting less
Revisado: 05-22-12
This book was a disappointment. It did nothing to progress the Silvia Compson story. Silvia appears even more bitter and unlikeable than in earlier novels. While one of the plot lines was intended to provide background into her sisters life and motivation, this reader was still left with an unflattering picture of Claudia, and her relationship with Sylvia.
The book was a reprise of various plots in other books in the series and lacked the historical references other books in the series bring.

Read Keeping Faith instead
Revisado: 03-20-11
I thought this book was outside the formula when the main characters stepped into court without lawyers, but no, the book turned into the classic Pioult court battle about children. The difference is that the characters were unformed and shallow, and the music tracks were at best, just too long. Get this book and fast forward thru the music, or use your credit on Keeping Faith, instead.

Wrong Genre
Revisado: 11-26-10
This is such a good book that it needs to be in regular fiction, not in romance. Robyn Carr is a good author, her Virgin River series is comprised of books with interesting characters, plots and places, but her dialog from the male characters is so flawed that I am constantly reminded that they are "romance novels"
The main characters of this book are women, fully developed characters. Read it you will love it.
