Historia
1979. Fifteen-year-old Aurora Taylor’s single mother prefers to leave when things get hard. She’s spent years abandoning bad boyfriends and dead-end jobs, without so much as a glance in the rearview mirror. After fifteen years in the passenger seat, Aurora needs more than two hands to count the towns she’s lived in. She’s learned to live small—it’s easier to leave when you don’t need to say goodbye. So when her mother, Laine, shows up at school with the car loaded, Aurora assumes her latest fling has run its course. Instead, it’s her grandpa Jay’s death calling them back.

Amazing debut novel. Interesting story! Terrific narrator!
Revisado: 02-20-25
***** FIVE STARS! Moving to a small town at 15 years old can be challenging. Aurora makes the best of it, making new friends and finding her community in tiny Monroe, Indiana. Until her young mom, Laine, starts dating a married man and threatens Aurora’s new found world. I loved this novel and its complicated family relationships. The narrator was excellent! Highly recommend.

Historia
In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. As Lara recalls the past, her daughters examine their own lives and relationship with their mother, and are forced to reconsider the world and everything they thought they knew.

Wow! I do love Ann Patchett. Tom Lake grabbed my interest immediately. We all have our “prior life” from before the life we have in one way or another. Such a relatable book. Meryl Streep is an amazing Narrator. I am sad to have finished. 5 stars all around.

Historia
Cat Winthorpe has worked hard to get what she has: a gorgeous home; social standing; and William, her successful, handsome husband. Then a friendly new couple moves into the estate next door. While cautious, a good neighbor like Cat greets them with open arms and warm hospitality. Neena Ryder isn’t a fellow lady of leisure. A life coach with off-the-rack dresses, personal issues, and a husband who hasn’t delivered, she’s anxious to move up in the world. This beautiful new town is a step in the right direction. It’s also making Neena aware of what she doesn’t have.

The narration was obnoxious, nails on a chalkboard. I couldn’t finish.

Could not imagine listening to the screechy narrator. Going to take a loss on this one.

Historia
One month into our stay, we'd managed to dispatch most of our charges. We executed the chickens. One of the cats disappeared, clearly disgusted with our urban ways. And Lucky [the cow] was escaping almost daily. It seemed we didn't have much of a talent for farming. And we still had eleven months to go." Antonia Murphy, you might say, is an unlikely farmer. Born and bred in San Francisco, she spent much of her life as a liberal urban cliché, and her interactions with the animal kingdom rarely extended past dinner.
