Ugh. No sympathetic characters
Revisado: 03-30-25
I’m not sure why this is an interesting story. I regret wasting my time and a credit on it. Too bad- I loved her other work.

Pales in comparison
Revisado: 03-28-25
I love the main Outlander books but this pales in comparison. It doesn’t have an interesting storyline and seems sort of frivolous.

Sensational!

The narrator is fabulous! The story is engaging. I listen to this - my favorite Outlander book- again and again. It feels like being with family.

Historia
Maggie Adair’s first year as a teacher at Downey House was a surprising success. After making the leap from an inner-city school in Glasgow, she’s learned to appreciate the mellower pace of the girls’ boarding school by the sea. Now engaged to her longtime boyfriend, sweet and steady Stan, Maggie’s just got to stop thinking about David McDonald, her colleague at the boys’ school down the road. Well, hasn’t she? Can Maggie take a leaf out of the Well Behaved Teacher’s exercise book and stick to her plan for a small but elegant wedding and settled life of matrimony?

Transphobic and more
Revisado: 09-10-22
I am a big Jenny Colgan fan however this book is transphobic and contains all sorts of weird messages about body image. Why bother describing the female sports teacher as very male for example? Why can’t she just be a strong sporty woman? In a book that is supposed to be dealing with issues of anorexia and body image, why describe one of the interviewers as dumpy and fat?
I feel like the author was trying to tackle some important issues but has so much subconscious prejudice that it just leaked out. Very disappointing.

It’s been a decade since they last spoke, but when Rachel bumps into Ben one rainy day, the years melt away. They’d been partners in crime and the best of friends. But life has moved on: Ben is married. Rachel is not. Yet in that split second, Rachel feels the old friendship return. And along with it, the broken heart she’s never been able to mend.

Loved book found narration challenging
Revisado: 01-06-22
I loved the story. I found the narrator’s accent difficult to understand with my US ear. The fault is no doubt mine but it was a challenge for me. I did get more used to it as the book went on. She is a great reader and does emotions wonderfully. I just struggle to understand the accent sometimes.

Narration is oddly slow
Revisado: 10-27-19
I loved this story. One suggestion is that narration seems oddly slow. I ended up listening to it at 1.25 speed because it was driving me nuts at normal speed.
