I am really enjoying listening to this author. I started listening to her because I enjoyed Jenny Sterling as a reader and I thought well it might be good after listening to the preview.... and I was right

this is just as yummy as the other Beaufort Scales books. if you like this series and you don't mind something a little bit darker try the DI Adams series and the Gobbelino London series. if you haven't read them you're in for a treat!

I love Jodi Tailor's books! I've listened to everything that's available by her and each of her different series and I've enjoyed every single one of them! I've even gone to her website and read some of her free shorts. if this is your first taste, you have a wonderful treat in store. and Zara Ramm is delightful! I've listened to new Authors because she was reading their books and found some really good authors! are there offers I enjoy: Terry Pratchett, JRR Tolkien, George RR Martin, Brandon Sanderson, Kim M Watt, Charlaine Harris... just to let you know a few of the authors I enjoy so you can compare.

In the first volume the background noises were way overwhelming. That gets better in the next two volumes. I wanted to follow up with the full cosmere, And the full story wasn't available in anything but graphic novel. So I listened. I found if I used it like the background of a movie versus headphones it was much easier to listen to. the performances were fine I missed Michael Kramer. if you're a Sanderson fan and you want to catch the whole cosmere until he writes the book for this one this will do

I've really enjoyed Sujata Massey's Pervin series on 1920s India. and I'd listen to the salaryman's wife and enjoyed that too then I realized that there were several other Rei shamura books on Audible so I figured hey cool! the first three are done by Justine Ayers who is amazing with the accents. I enjoyed the stories I enjoyed the Mysteries all in all entertaining and interesting. it's really strange that there's a huge break in between the first three books and then skipping directly to eight and then no more. so that's a bit of a bother since I'd really rather like to listen to the rest of them. hopefully one day audible will record the rest of them. the reader in typhoon lover is not bad but after Justine Ayre....

Gobolino of London is wonderful and I thank Audible for having almost all of her books in audio. As a relatively new author it's difficult to find her stuff audio format and they have almost all of it! the humor is wonderful the characters are lovely the plot lines are fun what more could you ask?

1st - I am LOVING Kim M Watt - I checked out her website to see if I could get more info on what happened in London. She reads tidbits of her books & misc other writings & they are delicious!! I enjoyed the Beaufort Scales books BUT I really am looking forward to the Gobbelino London series and especially What Happened in London. I got the 1st chapter or two on her site & was immediately wanting to hear the rest. I even put that actual book on my Christmas list. I seldom actually read these days since I have very limited time along with having dyslexia & AD/HD. Reading is hard, as it has always been, except now I don't have the time to wade my way thru an actual book. So I love listening to someone read and I do it voraciously. Everything from Samuel Pepys Diaries to Sci-Fi & fantasy to general fiction to mysteries to classics...everything.
2nd - OK about this series - It is fluffy & fun & funny. Your classic English village murder mysteries... you know tea, cakes, the WI &.... dragons. They are light, well written & Kim Watt is delightful. If you are looking for an easy fun read with a nice little mystery and dragons... you will LOVE them.
By the way, if you like this series try Quenby Olson's Miss Percy's Series "Pocket Guide to the Care & feeding of British Dragons" & "Travel Guide to Welsh Moors and Feral Dragons" books (also on Audible) I am looking forward to the 3rd of that series.

First, if you have read & enjoyed Drew Hayes books but have not listened to this one you will be able to see the same themes he uses in his other books. Friendship & teamwork, stepping out of your comfort zone, lotsa fantasy world stuff, Rodrigo & the bodice rippers (LOL... sorry inside joke). It is was written about the same time as the 1st Fred, the Vampire Accountant & Super Powereds but doesn't have the same cohesiveness those series do... which is probably why there are no follow-ups to it. It is a fun little book. I like seeing how an author develops and, since this is an earlier book, it doesn't have the same polish as his other books. Still fun; just enjoy it for what it is, a toe in the water. Rock on Drew Dude.

I was looking at "Starter Villain" & thought I would look for a "taste" of the author in the "included in your membership" section. After all, that's what got me into Jodi Taylor, Dakota Trout, Mel Starr, Ben Aaronovitch, Drew Hayes, Kim M Watt, Charlie Holmberg & a whole bunch of others.

I listened to all 3 of the "short stories" and enjoyed the writing & the performance. I keep wondering 2 things.

1) Why there are so many complaints about the language? I mean really?!? That's what you were focused on? These are people who kill people for a living and y'all are upset that they are swearing? There are very few times when colorful language is used and I didn't even notice it until I read the reviews. I keep wondering what world y'all are living in where people don't swear. I never have problems with people swearing in books if it is appropriate to the plot & the character. Maybe I just live in a less uptight society than y'all do, but I "Golly gee" just doesn't cut it when someone gets shot in front of you.

2) Why was everyone so hung up on "why" are people who are murdered coming back vs that they are & the story is about the world after everyone has adjusted to that fact. Spoiler alert: Ya never find out why... BUT that doesn't matter at all to the story. That is not what the story is about. Scalzi took the premise that people who are murdered 999.99% of the time wake up in a place they feel safe (usually in their beds at home) alive & as they were a few hours before they were murdered. Once that is accepted the idea of how society adapts to that fact is fascinating and there is a mystery in each book.

Anyway, I enjoyed the writing & will probably pick up "Starter Villain" and hope that I have a new author to enjoy. Thanks Audible for the freebees; they really are the best way to "sell" an author and I, for one, appreciate them!!
