Joe Arden & Lucia Dornet deliver stirring performances in the audio book version of Black Heart. We fans have been waiting a long time for the right lady to come along for mercenary, spy, patriot Ian Black but something up has been up between Ian & the assassin Natasha Oliver since she appeared in Black List, the first book in the Black's Bandits series.
Thirteen years his junior, Natasha on the surface is all wrong for Ian, or so he thinks. For starters, she wants to kill him. But they are both wounded souls and their attraction for each other is off the charts. A wild night in Venice adds complications when Natasha -- now pregnant with Ian's child -- shows up at his home to with orders to kill him.
But will love really set things right? Will her crime syndicate bosses allow her this chance at happiness? Can both get what they want most -- a family? Be prepared to shed a few tears, especially when Ian reveals why he is so driven the end human trafficking.
You will probably enjoy this best if you've read previous Black's Bandits or Hostile Operations Team romances. At least read or listen to Black List. Ian Black is a larger than life character. Lynn Raye Harris gives him a bad ass woman to match.

Picture this - I’m ready to win back the love of my life, and I’m going big this time. We’re talking boom box, sing her name in the rain, let the whole damn neighborhood know I'm good and ready this time around. After all, if you're going to grand gesture the ever-loving hell out of a second chance, you need to pull out all the stops. There’s only one little problem. My college girlfriend isn't the one who shows up when I play my "I'll do anything to win you back" tune. The woman who flings open the second-floor window tells me my ex doesn’t live here anymore.

Kaleo Griffith does his usual stellar job bringing to life ALL the cast in the I-team novella. Dead By Midnight is an action-packed, Die Hard story. All the characters get their moments. But call outs for Holly Andris, now an operative with Cobra International along with her husband Nick, who comes through big time several times. Gabe a.k.a. Spiderman, gets to scale the building as only he can to save the day. Mark Hunter, the former escaped con, is now SWAT team captain at Denver PD and just like he escaped prison in Unlawful Contact, he slips away from the bad guys and becomes a one-man army for a while, clearing the roof so the bad guys can't hold it. (He gets other moments that had me in tears.)
Best moments. Julian reacting to hearing Mark had just been executed by the bad guys and his conversation at the end, their guy talk.
I highly recommend this audio recording.
