Historia
Welcome to the Wanderlands. A vast machine made for reasons unknown, the Wanderlands was broken long ago. First went the sky, splintering and cracking, and then very slowly, the whole machine—the whole world—began to go dark. Meet the Failures. Following the summons of a strange dream, a scattering of adventurers, degenerates, and children find themselves drawn toward the same place: the vast underground Keep. They will discover there that they have been called for a purpose—and that purpose could be the destruction of everything they love.

One of the hardest to describe books I’ve read in awhile
Revisado: 08-12-24
This is a captivating book that pulls you in for a ride as long as you accept the fact that you will not fully understand the plot until the last 1/5 of the book. This may be off putting to some, but the final stretch is full of “ah ha!” moments that make the ride worth it. Excellent world building that reminded me of China Mieville though not as grim. Unfortunately the ending is rather abrupt though it had me wishing for the next installment. Overall, a fun read that will leave you struggling to describe the book to friends.

One of the most infuriating female characters I’ve ever read
Revisado: 02-28-24
I suppose the main female character was written like this for a reason, but it doesn’t detract from 20+ hours of eye rolling, unnecessary apologies from an emotionally abused woman. While the ending partially redeemed her character, I could not help but be immensely frustrated with her and almost dropped the book on multiple occasions.
That being said, the magic system is very interesting and well done. The world building was similarly well executed, but these silver linings can’t save an ultimately frustrating experience brought on by the behavior and attitudes of the main characters.

99% filler
Revisado: 09-20-23
Very frustrating book. The only one I’ve ever listened to on increased playback speed. Most of the book is useless filler. Didn’t care about any of the new characters or the plot of this book. What’s the point of building characters for 10 books if you don’t include them and they don’t interact with the MC at all? The rest of the series needs to become much more focused instead of dragging out for quantity’s sake.

A perfect end to the best sci-fi series ever
Revisado: 12-05-21
The expanse series is a masterpiece and shows the best of what science fiction has to offer. This final installment doesn’t disappoint and brings a beautiful ending to beloved characters. Jefferson Mays once again provides a phenomenal performance. I’m sad the series is over but I couldn’t be more excited for whatever these authors have in store next.

Historia
It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

Best LitRPG audiobook
Revisado: 10-05-21
Unlike other LitRPGs, this book is low on detailed math and tracking of damage, skills, and abilities which makes it so much more palatable in audio format. Great narration but the story lagged and felt somewhat vague on certain plot points. It was, however, saved by a great cast of characters and a likable, if somewhat eye-roll inducing, protagonist. Looking forward to the sequel. 7/10

Historia
David Wright played his entire Major League Baseball career for one team, the team he dreamed of playing for as a kid: the New York Mets. A quick fan favorite from Virginia who then earned his stripes in New York, Wright came back time and again from injury and demonstrated the power of hard work, total commitment, and an infinite love of the game.

Literal Chills
Revisado: 11-15-20
As a life long Mets fan who grew up watching Wright, this book was a fantastic window into his life and career. David’s descriptions of the 2006 and 2015 post-seasons gave me literal chills as I relived some of my favorite moments with a new perspective. A must listen for any Mets fan that is made even better by an excellent narration. LGM!
