Historia
Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Maybe it was because the book was so long and I imagined it, but I feel like some of the characters’ voices changed throughout the story?

Historia
In 2014, Francis Fukuyama wrote that American institutions were in decay, as the state was progressively captured by powerful interest groups. Two years later, his predictions were borne out by the rise to power of a series of political outsiders whose economic nationalism and authoritarian tendencies threatened to destabilize the entire international order. These populist nationalists seek direct charismatic connection to “the people”, who are usually defined in narrow identity terms that offer an irresistible call to an in-group and exclude large parts of the population as a whole.

The narration is so distracting!
Revisado: 11-06-18
The narration of this title sounds like a computer generated voice with vocal fry. This made this book very difficult to listen to.

Narration Tedious
Revisado: 05-09-13
The story was not the best out of all the Song of Ice and Fire books but still good. The narrator was annoying! Just read the book and skip trying to speak in other "voices" for the other characters; especially the female characters.

Historia
The rise to global predominance of Western civilization is the single most important historical phenomenon of the past five hundred years. All over the world, an astonishing proportion of people now work for Western-style companies, study at Western-style universities, vote for Western-style governments, take Western medicines, wear Western clothes, and even work Western hours. Yet six hundred years ago the petty kingdoms of Western Europe seemed unlikely to achieve much more than perpetual internecine warfare. It was Ming China or Ottoman Turkey that had the look of world civilizations.

It's Niall Ferguson
Revisado: 05-03-13
I know people either love or hate Ferguson. I am in the former camp. I have read most of his books and find them to be very captivating. I think he is one of the best revisionist conservative history writers today.

Again and again, microbes have shaped our health, our genetics, our history, our culture, our politics, even our religion and ethics. This book reveals much that scientists and cultural historians have learned about the pervasive interconnections between infectious microbes and humans. It also considers what our ongoing fundamental relationship with infectious microbes might mean for the future of the human species.

I felt this book was very informative but there was much repetitive info in the book. I would still recommend listening to it.

Historia
In his million-copy best seller Guns, Germs, and Steel, Jared Diamond examined how and why Western civilizations developed the technologies and immunities that allowed them to dominate much of the world. Now in this brilliant companion volume, Diamond probes the other side of the equation: what caused some of the great civilizations of the past to collapse into ruin, and what can we learn from their fates?

Brilliant
Revisado: 05-03-13
I became a Jared Diamond reader after Guns Germs and Steel which was a great book. Collapse, however, I think is even better. Easy to read, yet still incredibly intelligent, I highly recommend this book. I enjoyed it so much, I have read/ listened to it twice in two years.

Historia
On May 18, 1860, William H. Seward, Salmon P. Chase, Edward Bates, and Abraham Lincoln waited in their hometowns for the results from the Republican National Convention in Chicago. When Lincoln emerged as the victor, his rivals were dismayed and angry. Throughout the turbulent 1850s, each had energetically sought the presidency as the conflict over slavery was leading inexorably to secession and civil war.

Fantastic
Revisado: 04-30-13
This was by far the best book that I have read/ listened to in a very long time. The author does a beautiful job writing the book through the eyes of personal letters and writings from the people of the time period. This was by the most enjoyable history book that I have ever read.
