Historia
Simone used to be the woman that other women would use if they suspected that their partner was cheating. She would investigate, find out the truth, and if the men were guilty, exact revenge. But after things went wrong with one couple, Simone was forced to go into hiding. Simone is now Mary, a mild-mannered woman who doesn't raise her voice or get angry, meaning nobody would suspect her of being capable of the things she used to do for a living. But when she finds out that her new boyfriend is having an affair, it awakens in her the person she used to be.

SO GOOD
Revisado: 06-27-24
Wow, I finished this in 2 days. What a GREAT book! It’s been a while since I’ve heard/read such a great book. I can’t say how many times I told myself, “just one more chapter”.

Good story, narration not so much...
Revisado: 10-24-23
I listened to this novel after Desperate Measures, which I really enjoyed. This one took longer to get my attention. It was much slower and the narration alternated between a monotone and terrible voices, especially the male characters. I hate to say it, but I almost quit a few times.

Not for me
Revisado: 10-18-23
What a convoluted/confusing book. Of course I appreciate the message, but the story just didn't make sense for me... not sure when or why many newer novels have the constant jump between past and present, but when they "tie in" the book doesn't make sense. Neither have anything to do with the other, so it is just two really unfortunate events that happened in the main character's life.
This review is to remind me not to order the book again.

Historia
One sunny August afternoon, the residents of Cedar Close throw their annual summer barbecue. Children play in the cherry-tree lined street, tables are laden with food, and the wine is flowing. For Laurie Mills, it’s her first time meeting the neighbours. And it’s the first time she discovers her husband, Robert, is having an affair. Cedar Close has always been a nice place to live - a quiet suburban street where everyone looks out for one another and bad things don’t happen. Until late one evening, when Robert Mills is found dead in his bedroom.

Pretty good but dark
Revisado: 10-11-23
Reminds me of the book "The Psychopath Next Door", which is truly terrifying when you actually meet them and see them forward they are. Charismatic individuals who's sole fulfillment is to mess with people's head. No truer comment as the one in this novel "They go untreated while everyone around them needs therapy".

Wow...
Revisado: 10-08-23
This is my first Crouch novel, so I don't have any previous novels of his to compare it to, nor am I am I versed in parallel universes, so I enjoyed the book as the work of fiction that it is... with that being said, I thoroughly, enjoyed this interpretation on multi universe. In an effort not to divulge any spoilers, I'm just going to say it's a story if how to appreciate what you have when you have it. And what one would do to protect it.
Very good narration too, with minimal instances of narrator mixing character's voices. Easy to follow and a great performance. Definitely recommend.

Pretty Good Story But The Narration Lacked...
Revisado: 09-10-23
Once you're able to look past the unrealistic storyline and appreciate the book as fiction, it's really good. But wow was the narration was hard to listen to, starting with the main character who is supposed to be 16 but sounds pre-pubescent (like nails on chalkboard). A few times the narrator lost character and used that same voice for several characters, making it hard to follow. For that reason I gave such a low score and would recommend reading the actual book than listening to the audio.

Not as Good
Revisado: 09-07-23
I really enjoyed the first novel on this series, this one not so much... the story wasn't as exciting and the narrator put me to sleep several times that it took me foreverrrr to finish (and I typically enjoy long books).
Unfortunately, this one is going back.

Good Story but Trigger Warning
