Historia
When summoned to a fantastical world and granted powers by a broken System, most freshly minted protagonists would strap on their big-boy boots and get ready for their stats to start climbing. But Fischer isn't like most MCs. In fact, he doesn't want to be a hero at all. Fame? Fortune? Power? He had enough of all that in his old life. Discovering forbidden fishing techniques and petting every cute animal that comes within scritching distance? Now that's a good time.

Feels like a combination of several series, done just “ok”
Revisado: 04-22-24
TLDR: Heretical Fishing feels like a mash up of two different series (HWFWM/Beware of Chicken), but lacks world building, character growth, and a memorable cast of characters with meaningful “screen” time.
So for those of you who listen to fantasy/fantasy adjacent series, you’ll know Heath miller.
He also narrates for a pillar of the LitRPG genre in the “He Who Fights With Monsters” series
The main character is named Jason.
Heretical fishing’s main character is written extremely similarly to Jason, the only differences being 1. Not as quippy, 2. Not overly grimdark, 3. No pop culture, 4. Not poor, every other aspect feels like a carbon copy though.
There is another series, not narrated by Heath Miller, but the content is similar.
This series is “Beware of Chicken” it deals with a MC who after getting the isekai treatment, leaves a cultivator sect to become a farmer.
Guy becomes a good farmer, doesn’t consider themselves powerful, and awakens (unknowingly) spirit beasts via food(sound familiar?)
Both series are great, and I recommend them to anyone asking.
Heretical Fishing is just ok, due to Fischer’s writing, and Heath Miller’s Aussie accent, it was hard to distinguish between both Jason(HWFWM) and Fischer(Heretical Fishing).
The overall content of the Heretical Fishing, is extremely similar to Beware of Chicken, just less fun, less world building, and with less time devoted to fleshing out the spirit beasts as actual characters.
In short, Heretical Fishing is an alright listen, but it’s not worth continuing in its current state, I still recommend you give it a listen, just don’t expect too much.

Two books compressed into one? Spoilers
Revisado: 05-04-23
Although this book tries to expand on the world and its mechanics, it mostly fails to live up to the expectations set by the first book.
Mc feels nerfed
Added more characters which is somewhat necessary, but it takes away from the MC more than other works I’ve read/listened to.
Most of the world isn’t really explored because half the book takes place around the school, while the other half has the MC, two side characters, and Aki stranded in another dimension.
There is also a six month time skip which felt needed, but took away from the pacing.

Historia
Lukas Aguilar does not believe in gods. Despite—or perhaps because of—his deep knowledge of mythology and lore, Lukas has always valued what is practical, factual, and verifiable, eschewing faith for what he can see right in front of him. That is, until an earthquake destroys his home, and he wakes up in a dark cavern infested with bloodthirsty and unearthly creatures, wielding strange powers and hearing an even stranger voice in his head claiming to be a goddess.

Bad, but great at the same time
Revisado: 03-14-23
For most of the book(first third/half) I regretted buying the book, however once the story shifted onto a separate character the story took off, especially when both sides of the story collide.
TLDR: book sets up a lot, it semi pays off, needs another book of the same length.

With the authorities fulfilling their responsibilities (for once), he looks forward to some quiet time to rest and recuperate. The locals might not find ceaseless monster onslaughts and an interdimensional invasion relaxing, but Jason has had a rough few years. He's doing his best to let go of his anger. While his team is caught up in duty, Jason has no shortage of people looking to interfere with his rest. Enemies—old and new—are circling, and even would-be allies are trouble.

Good book, minor issues with the recording
Revisado: 09-15-22
I’ve noticed a trend with the last two books released where Heath Miller gets cut off near the end of a dialogue. It’s not a major issue, but it gets annoying when you hear “…expected to happen any day N—.” It’s not hard to figure out the words that get cut off, it’s just disappointing that they do get cut off.

Historia
Keras Selyrian is already well on the way to cutting his name into the annals of legend. He’s fought false divinities, thieving sorcerers, and corrupt demigods - and left them defeated in his wake. But he’s a long way from home, and Kaldwyn offers a different brand of danger than he’s used to. He’s already got a sword of unfathomable power, but it’s damaged and leaking world-annihilating mana, so he’s in the market for a new one. Possibly six. The more the better, really.

Vague hints at world building, not for me
Revisado: 08-05-22
I’m 4 hours into the book, and I still don’t know the protagonist’s name.
I know not what the plot is, there is a total lack of world building, the magic system I’ve somewhat pieced together is bland.
There was some entertaining bits in that time, however I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone unless they like vague stories with lots of combat scenes that end in conversations.
I read some reviews saying this was quite fun, or took elements from HWFWM, it doesn’t have either qualities.
Buy at your own risk.

Just don’t, it’s not worth the time
Revisado: 06-03-22
I picked this up to listen to while working, out of all the titles I lined up this was the worst.
The characters are unrealistic, the writing is terrible, the dialogue is horrible.
Spoilers ahead!
The narrator did his best, but every character with the exception of the leader of the free people of the Congo sounded like they smoked 30 packs of cigarettes in a day.
It was incredibly hard trying to tell characters apart.
Aside from that, what kind of person(character) sees people shambling, eating other humans, gets told not to get bit, gets asked about zombies, sees those who get bit attacking others in the same way, and wants to hurt the guy giving all the facts in a plain and logical manner?
Steve that’s who(I think they are called Steve, it’s the special forces guy who doesn’t have the basic intelligence required to be special forces)
You don’t write people this way!
Please for the sake of your sanity don’t read or listen to this book.

Monotonous
Revisado: 05-18-22
I got this book on recommendation, and listened through it without judging the content until I finished.
The narrator does a subpar job, most of the book felt sluggish, and because of the monotone voice of Pavi I had trouble listening to this.
The story itself was pretty bland, it has one of the rarer starts(worlds combining under power of god like system) however 90% of the book is spent following the slow and arduous journey to defeat an incursion; flowing those events, it’s just more battles, little character development, and poor world exploration.
In the last 4 hours of the book, i actually started to enjoy the story because it was going somewhere, however this ended quickly because of the lack of character development and the conclusion of this book.
I’ll listen to the second book, however if that feels the same as this it will be refunded.

Honestly hard to sit through
Revisado: 04-16-22
I’ll try to go without spoilers. I couldn’t get through half the book because of how helpless the whole overall feel became.
The story is ok, but it’s just one hit after another with it.
The narrator did a great job, however I found it mildly difficult to listen to the somewhat lacking writing.
