Historia
When veteran war reporter Benjamin Hall woke up in Kyiv on the morning of March 14, 2022, he had no idea that, within hours, Russian bombs would nearly end his life. As a journalist for Fox News, Hall had worked in dangerous war zones like Syria and Afghanistan, but with three young daughters at home, life on the edge was supposed to be a thing of the past. Yet when Russia viciously attacked Ukraine in February 2022, Hall quickly volunteered to go. A few weeks later, while on assignment, Hall and his crew were blown up in a Russian strike.

Moving and Inspiring!
Revisado: 03-24-23
This is so worth the time and Ben’s voice is stellar for his story! I had a front row seat to his life and experiences. Such an amazing young man…praying his continued joy and positive experiences in his life. Fox has a treasure in you. I hope they realize this. Tears, laughs, and gasps were experienced throughout. I was inspired in a few difficulties of my own…”If Ben can do this, then I certainly can…” Thank you for your service!

Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

Historia
What happens when one of America’s most beloved biographers writes his own biography? For five-time New York Times best-selling author Eric Metaxas, the answer is Fish Out of Water: A Search for the Meaning of Life - a soaring, lyrical, and often mischievous account of his early years, in which the astute Queens-born son of Greek and German immigrants struggles to make sense of a world in which he never quite seems to fit.

Hilarious, authentic (truly) and meaningful
Revisado: 03-06-21
How refreshing! I have never enjoyed an autobiography like this!!! I laughed throughout and moved carefully down the road with this author in his discovery of Truth. Rich language and recurring metaphor between one world and the next created a magnificent tapestry...I hesitate to say that I wish Eric Metaxus’ life to move on down the road so I may read his second autobiography! I know!...please make it a trilogy. Book two is ready...write it! Pure joy, this.

Historia
Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

This is social change!
Revisado: 09-19-20
What a marvelous book. I learned so much. Give your books to young people. I plan to buy some just for that purpose. This us such an upbeat, positive message no matter your political party. Candace’s model for young people will improve their lives after reading...all young people, all lives. This book will also go a long way toward correcting social issues present today if we will but listen.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Faith and Forgiveness
Revisado: 07-12-20
Such a breath of fresh air given to his family in the form of growth and forgiveness. I compare this to the book Educated, where all ties are broken, none are forgiven and I’m fairly certain the wounds fester and harm...A simple, yet stunning book.
And yes, go figure, I’m a hillbilly. I suspected it but am certain now...so many things that ring true! And indeed faith and forgiveness are the best answers to this life.

Historia
The quiet 1960s midwestern life of the Land family is upended when son Davy kills two marauders who have come to harm the family. The morning of his sentencing, Davy (a hero to some, a cold-blooded murderer to others) escapes from his cell, and the Lands set out in search of him. Their journey is touched by serendipity and the kindness of strangers, and they cover territory even more extraordinary than the Badlands, where they search for Davy from their Airstream trailer.

My new favorite book...
Revisado: 10-23-19
I’ve always wondered how people could have a favorite book. Books seem so different. But as I have aged I have also wearied of slogging through fiction after fiction only to leave them unfinished. They usually leave me with a bad taste...no knowable truth, no love worth dying for, no reason to exist beyond trying to tell a story that maybe Hollywood would pick up...talk about a worthless world view.
I just finished the Audible version of Peace Like a River by Leif Enger. As I finished, I wept. I have a favorite book in my life. I am full of longing and yet endless hope. I recognize love worth dying for. I heard knowable truth for all the ages. It was salt and light. How satisfying and yet not.

It provides a wide range of real stories of the miraculous and will engage the listener in the serious discussion that this fascinating and rich subject deserves.

“What are the odds?...”
Revisado: 08-24-19
Anytime that is said, look for a miracle and one is more frequently than you would expect, presenting itself. As the Christian Love of Christ is embraced and worshiped, as life is lived with eyes wide open and in broad daylight, it seems an awareness occurs that allows the Lord to work, to speak, to move. It’s wonderful. I loved this book. A few of the stories made me stop and cry and praise and pray. This is a faith builder...a hope maker...another way to define our joy.

In the 1970s, against the backdrop of the explosive Watergate scandal, Charles Colson revealed the story of his own search for meaning during the tumultuous investigations that led to the collapse of the Nixon administration. A convicted former special counsel to the president, Colson paradoxically found new life - not with success and power, but while in national disgrace and serving a prison sentence.

Paradigm Shift
Revisado: 02-26-19
I have to admit that I have had a judgmental attitude concerning prison and inmates reaping what they have sown. I am cut to the quick after this book.
I listen to Breakpoint podcast often and felt I needed to know more about the person behind it. This book did not disappoint. The beginning was slow for me because I did not find much interest in things relating to Watergate and Nixon political years, especially so far removed now in time (it seemed...now the book has demonstrated we still struggle with the same issues.) But after his conversion and his story of prison life I could not put this audible down!!! The first half of the book took awhile. The last half took less than two days.
I am sitting here afterwards wanting sincerely to serve others more, in whatever venue I am able, as Chuck Colson has through his Prison Fellowship and Breakpoint. This was an amazing story!

Have we been taught to discount the veracity and deeper meaning of our emotional resonance with the world around us? In The Abolition of Man, C.S. Lewis looks at the curriculum of the English "prep school" and begins to wonder if this subliminal teaching has indeed produced a generation who discount such a nature.
