Historia
In the summer of 1846, the Army of the West marched through Santa Fe, en route to invade and occupy the Western territories claimed by Mexico. Fueled by the new ideology of “Manifest Destiny,” this land grab would lead to a decades-long battle between the United States and the Navajos, the fiercely resistant rulers of a huge swath of mountainous desert wilderness.

Historia
In November 1944, 18-year-old June Walker boards an unmarked bus, destined for a city that doesn't officially exist. Oak Ridge, Tennessee has sprung up in a matter of months - a town of trailers and segregated houses, 24-hour cafeterias, and constant security checks. There, June joins hundreds of other young girls operating massive machines whose purpose is never explained. They know they are helping to win the war, but must ask no questions and reveal nothing to outsiders.

Historia
James A. Garfield may have been the most extraordinary man ever elected president. Born into abject poverty, he rose to become a wunderkind scholar, a Civil War hero, and a renowned and admired reformist congressman. Nominated for president against his will, he engaged in a fierce battle with the corrupt political establishment. But four months after his inauguration, a deranged office seeker tracked Garfield down and shot him in the back. But the shot didn’t kill Garfield. The drama of what happened subsequently is a powerful story of a nation in turmoil.

Historia
Ty Seidule grew up revering Robert E. Lee. From his southern childhood to his service in the US Army, every part of his life reinforced the Lost Cause myth: that Lee was the greatest man who ever lived, and that the Confederates were underdogs who lost the Civil War with honor. Now, as a retired brigadier general and Professor Emeritus of History at West Point, his view has radically changed. From a soldier, a scholar, and a southerner, Ty Seidule believes that American history demands a reckoning.

as a west point grad and a southern white male, this book struck home. the author writes in a personal way about his maturation. this should be required reading at all military academies, because our future leaders need this in order to lead our country to a better future.

Historia
There may be no tidy solutions or pithy answers to life’s big challenges, but Michelle Obama believes that we can all locate and lean on a set of tools to help us better navigate change and remain steady within flux. In The Light We Carry, she opens a frank and honest dialogue with listeners, considering the questions many of us wrestle with: How do we build enduring and honest relationships? How can we discover strength and community inside our differences? What tools do we use to address feelings of self-doubt or helplessness? What do we do when it all starts to feel like too much?

good homespun wisdom that she has gained thru experience and from others, especially her mom. this book along with her other book, Becoming, help me to understand her better and to further my respect for her. I wish she had spent more time describing the struggles she had with her healthy kids initiative.

Historia
Aurora is a small town nestled in the ancient forest alongside the shores of Minnesota’s Iron Lake. In the summer of 1963, it is the whole world to 12-year-old Cork O’Connor, its rhythms as familiar as his own heartbeat. But when Cork stumbles upon the body of a man he revered hanging from a tree in an abandoned logging camp, it is the first in a series of events that will cause him to question everything he took for granted about his hometown, his family, and himself.

One of the Best of a good series
Revisado: 11-14-22
I've read most of the Cork O Conner series and this is an excellent story of murder, tragedy, racial prejudice, human failings and good people. Against the backdrop of racial hatred and suspicion, a few good people are able to work together to solve a horrific murder.

Historia
Hated and hailed, excoriated and revered, Abraham Lincoln was at the pinnacle of American power when secessionists gave no quarter in a clash of visions bound up with money, race, identity, and faith. In him we can see the possibilities of the presidency as well as its limitations. This book tells the story of Lincoln from his birth on the Kentucky frontier to his leadership during the Civil War to his tragic assassination: his rise, his self-education, his loves, his bouts of depression, his political failures, his deepening faith, and his persistent conviction that slavery must end.

I appreciate Lincoln more than ever.
Revisado: 11-10-22
The best Lincoln novel I've read. Meacham has researched and written a human story of this remarkable man. he shows Lincoln as a man with failings but one who steadfastly rose above the various factions to lead the nation beyond its monstrous failings and divisions. After reading this book its hard to imagine any other leading this nation through a necessary but almost impossible eradication of its people clinging to a way of life that was holding the country back from realizing its true potential.

Historia
Atrial fibrillation strikes one in four American adults. Not only do people suffering from this condition suffer from shortness of breath, fatigue, chest discomfort, decreased ability to exercise and do activities of daily living, arrhythmia, and palpitations, but their risk of a stroke, cognitive decline and dementia, heart failure, or premature death also shoots way up. Today, a whole new body of research - one most physicians are unaware of - shows that biomarker and lifestyle optimization may put half the cases of atrial fibrillation into remission without drugs or procedures.

For anyone with Afib/Flutter
Revisado: 04-05-22
I've had paroxysmal afib/flutter for over 6 years with cardioversion and ablation as experiences. I've done a lot of reading and this book covers all the bases. it Advocates a healthy lifestyle and a whole person approach to Afib cure. it also argues for steps to eliminate drugs as a treatment for afib. Best description I've read of the many limitations / side effects of most of the arrhythmia and rate control drugs. also goes into much detail on the risks and rewards of ablation.
A must listen for anyone who wishes to escape the quality of life trap that many folks with afib experience.
