Shana wakes up one morning to discover her little sister in the grip of a strange malady. She appears to be sleepwalking. She cannot talk and cannot be woken up. And she is heading with inexorable determination to a destination that only she knows. But Shana and her sister are not alone. Soon, they are joined by a flock of sleepwalkers from across America, on the same mysterious journey. And like Shana, there are other "shepherds" who follow the flock to protect their friends and family on the long dark road ahead.

Scarily Relevant to the Present!
Revisado: 03-26-20
Holy smokes, what a rollercoaster. Listening to this book during the COVID-19 pandemic, the week Michigan forbade all nonessential travel, was creepy as hell. I had to keep looking at the publication date.
Anyway, it’s a gripping story of a global pandemic, and a preemptive response to it, and all the disturbingly real ways that our country dealt with them. I was riveted. It’s been REALLY easy to suspend disbelief on this one, given that we’re all self-quarantined if not working an “essential” job. I’m going to go recommend it to everyone, just as my friend S.A. Hunt did. I’m so glad she did!

Sucks you in and doesn’t let go
Revisado: 01-16-20
A pretty dang riveting story, with plenty of tension and creep factor and just enough humor. I’ll be jumping on the sequel as soon as it’s released!

Matt, why you so dumb?
Revisado: 11-15-19
It’s hard for me to like this story. I mean, on the one hand, we *do* get a neat little tale about some mutant wildlife making our dear Weller’s life difficult. But on the other hand....cicadas. I like cicadas, and their crunchy crispy shells. And I dislike “shoot first, ask questions later” personalities. Right from the first mutant appearance, Matt blundered like the dumbest of dumbasses, and, well....I couldn’t help rooting for the bugs.

Historia
Matt Freeborn is a weller, one whose job is to seek out the most valuable commodity in the wastes: clean, potable water. The weller's precious cargo makes him a prime target for attack from savage road pirates, grotesque mutants, ravenous cannibals, and ruthless private armies. Armed with his trusty sidearm, the Well Digger, Freeborn is fully prepared to handle any of these terrors, but there are still things even the weller fears: the bogeymen of the wastes...distillers.

Like Reading an Action Movie!
Revisado: 11-12-19
The storyline was engaging and exciting, pulling me along effortlessly. I kept thinking through the whole thing that this would make one heck of a Mad Max movie - plenty of excitement and car chases and close calls and daring rescues.
The audio did start out a bit quieter than expected, but evened out after a little while.
Narration was smooth and pleasant, with just the right skin-crawliness for the mutants. Ugh! Only a few oddly pronounced words, easily forgotten.
Looking forward to the next one!

Historia
You'll love this collection of three Anne Rice favorites at a bargain price. The Witching Hour: Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real a family of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, to murder and philosophy, a family that is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous and seductive being. Lasher: Now, Anne Rice brings us again - even more magically - into the midst of the dynasty of witches she introduced in The Witching Hour. Taltos: What can I confess? I'm Ashlar. I'm a Taltos.

It doesn’t say abridged in the description
Revisado: 04-24-19
I did not expect abridged, and feel stupid for not checking reviews. I just wanted to hear the books again. There goes a precious credit. ☹️
