Formulaic in the writing. I used to enjoy this series when I needed light reading. This will be my last.

Historia
Thomas De Quincey, infamous for his memoir "Confessions of an English Opium-Eater", is the major suspect in a series of ferocious mass murders identical to ones that terrorized London 43 years earlier. The blueprint for the killings seems to be De Quincey's essay "On Murder Considered as One of the Fine Arts". Desperate to clear his name but crippled by opium addiction, De Quincey is aided by his devoted daughter, Emily, and a pair of determined Scotland Yard detectives.

- Murder as a Fine Art
- De: David Morrell
- Narrado por: Matthew Wolf
The murders, as described in this book, do not deserve tone called “Fine Art.”
Revisado: 12-30-22
There is no doubt this was an excellently researched book. The writing, itself, was also quite good. However, I found the almost-casual but lurid descriptions of the murders, particularly that of the baby’s, very disturbing. I almost returned the book at that point, but decided to soldier on, given all the good-to-great reviews others had given the book.
Frankly, I still find the descriptions of the murders unnecessarily gruesome, and I regret using a credit on it.

Historia
Ireland, AD 670. When the body of a murdered young noble is discovered not far from Cashel, the king calls upon his sister, Fidelma, and her companion, Eadulf, to investigate. Fidelma, in addition to being the sister of the king, is a dailaigh - an advocate of the Brehon Law Courts - and has a particular talent for resolving the thorniest of mysteries. But this time Fidelma and Eadulf have very little to work with - the only clue to the noble's identity is an emblem originating from the nearby kingdom of Laign.

I have eagerly awaited more of Tremayne’s Fidelma mysteries set in 6th century Ireland. All were first -rate til now. Average .

All of Tremayne’s other Fildema books were wonderful. This was the first to disappoint. No wonder it was free. (Plus catalog)

Have to get past the irritating narrator to enjoy.
Revisado: 07-12-20
Almost all the narrator's sentences ended in what I found to be a very annoying pattern. I don't know how to describe it other than in musical terms: the fifth, fourth and third last words of the sentence as a triplet on the pitch of RE, followed by the second last word as a quarter note on SO, and the last word as a quarter note down to DO. I honestly don't think I can listen to another book in the series. It drives me crazy.
