Historia
Delilah Green swore she would never go back to Bright Falls—nothing is there for her but memories of a lonely childhood where she was little more than a burden to her cold and distant stepfamily. Her life is in New York, with her photography career finally gaining steam and her bed never empty. Sure, it’s a different woman every night, but that’s just fine with her.

Sometimes opposites attract but it isn’t always believable…
Revisado: 07-02-24
I wanted to like it. I even returned it and purchased it again but it just didn’t click for me. I think the contrast between Delilah and Claire was a big reason for this. It felt like I was listening to Daria fall in love with Miss Frizzle. I didn’t feel the tension or spark between them. The narration told us they had a connection but I never felt it in their dialogue. This was even more apparent during their sex scene, which seemed extremely juvenile for two women pushing 30. Delilah would compliment Claire and Claire would respond by self deprecating or sheepishly saying “really?” It’s no wonder Delilah didn’t get the ick because I surely would have lol. I felt myself being way more invested in Astrid and her wedding drama than Delilah and Claire’s relationship.

A bit cringe…
Revisado: 06-29-24
I really wanted to like this book. It started off with the correct amount of anticipation and suspense that I like in first chapters of any book I read. I didn’t even mind the strange interpretation of Nat’s voice initially. But then we got to the sex and well…it just wasn’t for me. The combination of the forced masculine voice that the narrator gave Nat vs the archaic verbiage used made me cringe. I found myself having to pause multiple times just to let the cringe subside. Do people really say “You have such a nice bottom.” during sex? I’ve honestly been more moved by sex scenes in books that weren’t erotica so maybe the writing just didn’t click for me. I didn’t bother to finish the book past the initial sex encounter for obvious reasons.

It started great but...
Revisado: 05-24-24
The overall premise of the book is great. I will never get tired of a good enemies to lovers story. Throw in reality tv and wlw and I'm sold. However, there were certain pacing issues and characters that completely took me out of it.
*SPOILER WARNING*
Skye for instance, was an extremely grating, confusing and hypocritical character. When we're introduced to her, she's self righteous and insensitive. For whatever reason, she could not seem to fathom how the person that ghosted her and triggered her abandonment issues could be a cheater and not the best human being lol. But when Maya tells her about the revenge plan, we're suddenly supposed to believe she's this logical, cool, calm and collected mastermind that can read people? The romance made her bearable for a few chapters, but then she was back to being insensitve and only seeing things her way. Her not being open to a relationship and then selfishly expecting Maya to drop all of her plans when she decided she was ready was extremely was hard to listen to. And when Maya finally chose her near the end, she was still being pessimistic about long distance. I can tell she was written to be this cool, perpetually indifferent and logical character but her actions just did not match and it infuriated me lol.
Aside from Skye being insufferable, I think there were a few moments in the book that dragged and I think the slow burn could've been a bit slower. Maya's attraction for Skye wasn't really mentioned before she revealed that she wanted to kiss her. And their first kiss was a bit abrupt.
On a positve note, Maya was a great character. Flawed but someone you wanted to root for. She was also the comedic relief in the book and made a lot of the characters bearable. Ultimately, it was fine but my expectations were much higher and Skye as a character was a let down.
