Still Conning at 80
Revisado: 10-02-21
As I am listening to this biography, I was skeptical about the veracity Doris Payne's tales. And that is just what they were "tales" of the tall kind. She says so in the afterward.
For someone who deeply desires to be a class act, she had no compunction about "taking" other people's property but complained vociferously when it happened to her. Save your "earned" money - I'm glad I got this one on sale.

Interesting Look into Transplants
Revisado: 09-19-21
Coming directly from a doctor who performs these transplants, this book is an interesting look into this medical procedure that saves or prolongs lives. His addition of the developmental history and the men who pioneered the techniques gives it substance and his personal experiences with patients make it empathetic.

Historia
The Open Range cattle era lasted barely a quarter-century, but it left America irrevocably changed. These few decades following the Civil War brought America its greatest boom-and-bust cycle until the Depression, the invention of the assembly line, and the dawn of the conservation movement. It inspired legends, such as that icon of rugged individualism, the cowboy. Yet this extraordinary time and its import have remained unexamined for decades. Cattle Kingdom reveals the truth of how the West rose and fell, and how its legacy defines us today.

A somewhat comprehensive scope of the cattle industry. Much is left out in favor of the author's view of the cattle industry and the development of the West.

Judge Starr is very nice.
Revisado: 10-03-18
As always, Judge Ken Starr is a very nice gentleman and honorable individual. It is good to hear his side of Whitewater, but frustrating to see how he was turned into the "bad guy" while Hill & Bill got to skate free. It's a quick and easy listen - still relevant to what is still going on in politics in this country today.

Historia
Lo Blacklock, a journalist who writes for a travel magazine, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea. At first Lo's stay is nothing but pleasant: The cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant. But as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the deck, and gray skies fall.

Historia
> The Chaperone is a captivating novel about the woman who chaperoned an irreverent Louise Brooks to New York City in 1922, and the summer that would change them both. Only a few years before becoming a famous actress and an icon for her generation, a 15-year-old Louise Brooks leaves Wichita to make it big in New York. Much to her annoyance, she is accompanied by a thirty-six-year-old chaperone who is neither mother nor friend. Cora Carlisle is a complicated but traditional woman with her own reasons for making the trip.

Historia
Phil Spector, born in the Bronx in 1940, grew up an outsider despised by his peers. But he formed a band, and had a number-one hit with "To Know Him Is to Love Him". He quickly became the top producer of early rock and roll and the originator of such girl groups as the Ronettes. Hit followed hit, and for all of them he used a new recording style called the "wall of sound". But the reign of the boy-man who owned pop music was doomed, and Spector spiraled into paranoid isolation and peculiar behavior.

Historia
Philip Norman turns his formidable talent to the Beatle for whom belonging to the world's most beloved pop group was never enough. Drawing on previously untapped sources, and with unprecedented access to all the major characters, here is the definitive portrait of John Lennon. This biography takes a fresh and penetrating look at Lennon's much-chronicled life, including the songs that have turned him, posthumously, into almost a secular saint.

Poorly Abriged
Revisado: 11-04-09
Unfortunately this book is very poorly abridged. At one point it is talking about the band trying to come up with a name and the next thing you know, the "Beatles" are filming 'Help'. and on, and on it goes.
If you are interested in this title, definitely go for the book. The abridged audio is lacking.
