Terrible Terrible Terrible
Revisado: 10-22-20
I'm a major Du Maurier fan and was really looking forward to listening to these stories. However good the tale are, they are virtually unlistenable due to poor recording quality (a recording of an old books on cassette recording) and dull narration to the point of sleep inducing.

I'm on my second listen

No exaggeration to compare to the work of Zora Neale Hurston and Alice Walker. Fascinating human insight peppered with not always comfortable humor. Ignore the tepid theatre reviews-- it plays completely different in audio form.

But when one of Clare’s colleagues and closest friends is found dead, with a line from R. M. Spectacular build-up to a disappointing end
Revisado: 10-04-19
SOME SPOILERS! Seldom had the end of a book made me mad. Until the last ten minutes, I was all in. The writing was engaging, the details rang true and the performances were great. I loved the back and forth of various narrators. The spooky story within a story was a great way to divide the chapters. But, from the get-go, I thought I knew who the killer was. I kept thinking, what about ________?! How could this trio of smart women not see what was right there? The revelation of the killer, not through any fancy detective work, not anything to do with the spooky story-- just a lucky (and illegal) happenstance-- was a real let-down and made these fascinating women all seem a lot less interesting.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Dripping with bloody excitement!
Revisado: 04-04-19
You might think I'm partial because 'Dracula' is one of my top five novels. But I've heard a couple snippets of lesser versions, and every other version is a lesser when compared to this stellar production. For me, Victorian literature was meant to be heard out loud with talented, engaged performers like these.

With his trademark mirth and boundless charisma, actor Nick Offerman brought the loveable shenanigans of Twain's adolescent hero to life in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Now, in yet another virtuosic performance, the actor proves that despite being separated by a span of over a century, his connection to the author and his work is undeniable and that theirs is a timeless collaboration that should not be missed.

Don't get me wrong. I love Mark Twain, I love Nick Offerman. But the mix is just incredibly boring.
