Historia
Two years after her husband's death, kindergarten teacher Brooklyn Harvey is leaving Hope Springs for her in-laws' vineyard in Italy - with no plans of coming back. That is, until she meets a disarmingly sexy biker-turned-chocolatier. He might be the man of her dreams, but he's also the father of one of her students; as such, he's strictly off-limits.

The narration was good except...
Revisado: 05-05-15
I really loved this story and am looking forward to listening to more of Ms Kent's books.
I liked the narrators voice; her accents were good and her voice was strong. I liked listening to her.
But there was one thing that really annoyed me: when she read, "she made a small laugh", and then made a giggling sound. She also did that with coughs, sniffs, clearing of the throats etc..
It interrupted the flow of the story and i felt like it was forced; like she had to think about it each time. I would have given narration 5 stars if she read the story without the sound effects.

Narrator is BORING!
Revisado: 01-17-14
What would have made Last Man Standing better?
A new narrator. This narrator had one tone to his voice and it was painful to listen to. I couldn't get through the 1st chapter, My husband didn't last as long as I did; he left after the first 5 min!
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Didn't have a chance to even get to the plot, never made it past the first chapter. If the narrator had put some emotion into the reading, changed the tone of his voice just once, I might have listened long enough to get to the plot!
How did the narrator detract from the book?
He was so terribly boring: monotone and slow. There was no infliction, emotion or even a hint of having a human emotion in his voice. I've heard computers that had more emotion. I will not listen to another book narrated by Jason Culp!
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
disappointment with the narrator; and anger that the company put the book out with this narrator. do they not listen to them and edit?
Any additional comments?
Just re-release this title with different narrator and give us a chance to like it!

Historia
Will Robie may have just made the first - and last - mistake of his career.... It begins with a hit gone wrong. Robie is dispatched to eliminate a target unusually close to home in Washington, D.C. But something about this mission doesn't seem right to Robie, and he does the unthinkable: He refuses to kill. Now, Robie becomes a target himself and must escape from his own people.
Fleeing the scene, Robie crosses paths with a wayward teenage girl, a 14-year-old runaway from a foster home. But she isn't an ordinary runaway....

A great Listen
Revisado: 08-22-12
Would you listen to The Innocent: A Novel again? Why?
Yes, the story was very interesting-single older man, working as an assassin realizes his career is up while on a hit, escapes and runs into a scared, uptight teenager-both very set in their ways, and they both must learn to trust, respect each other so they can find out why they were thrown together. There were many plot twists which allows the story, and characters to pull you in so you are wanting to know what is next. The only criticism is the ending left us wishing for a sequel.
The narration was very good. I hadn't listened to a book with 2 narrators before, but Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy were really nice to listen to and i enjoyed the distinction between the characters, especially since one is a teenager. Orlagh Cassidy helped bring her to life and was very convincing as a 14 year old. I think if it was done by one narrator some of her scared, but independant nature would have been lost.
The book flowed, never stalled, and we both stayed up one night to finish. I will definitely listen to it again.
My husband and I listen to it in the car as we drive to class, and we both enjoyed it, which speaks volumes for this book. I don't usually read this genre-I like historical romances and he is into sci-fi, but we chose this book as a middle ground, and we are both glad we did. Will definitely listen to other books by Balducci; and these narrators.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character was Will Robie. He is the cliche of the older single man- a solitary figure, focusing on his career-never time for romance, family. But as the story progressed I loved seeing the cracks open up, as he fights his feelings for his neighbor, and he allows a teenage girl, Julie, to be more and more a partner of his instead of an inconvenience; and seems to enjoy it. His character thrives on taking her in and helping her find out all the answers. He would never admit it, but he wants to have a family, a normal life, and starts feels that is possible at the end. Very dynamic character- I loved him!!
Which character – as performed by Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy – was your favorite?
Will Robie for the same reasons.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, not necessarily a touchy-feely moment, but when Robie realizes that Julie is in real danger while being protected by FBI, he rushes to get to her. This is the first time that he allows himself to get emotional about her. He has always thought of her as a hinderance, someone he has to have close to him so he can figure this whole problem out; So it was nice to see him have genuine feelings for her- really getting upset with the thought that she might actually come to some harm.
