Beware Audible’s shenanigans!

It took my from episode one to the last episode. I thought it was episode two so I assumed the conclusion was a misstep. It turns out the misstep was on Audible. Thanks for spoiling it.

Richard Armitage

I don't review classic texts, but I will review the narrator.

Richard Armitage is an amazing voice actor. his accents and voices are top notch. His female voices are, to be expected, very deep. Nevertheless he does them well.

great story, poor production

This is a dark, often explicit, crime drama. The story kept me going. the production made me want to quit.

I strongly dislike the use of two voices. The transitions are jarring and unexpected, but I got used to them. I understand that it is meant to mimic police records, dialogue, etc. but it doesn't work.

Worse is the performance of the male actor. he is probably better suited to non fiction. sometimes his female voice sounded different, sometimes it sounded the same as his male voice. the narrator voice and FBI voices all sounded the same. At times, it was a very confusing listen.

excellent lecture series

As the graphic and description indicate, this is part of the "Great Courses" and "In this 10-lecture journey through the story of an undeniably American libation" and "listeners will: Hear the stories behind the earliest bourbon whiskies right up to the current "bourbon bubble"".

So just as the history of America includes the history of England and Europe, so the history of bourbon includes history of whisky and spirits. So pay short attention to the people who neither read the description nor looked at the graphic.

This is an excellent listen that tells the story of bourbon in America, its development, its brands, its styles, and its futures.

the reviews are almost evenly split among the star levels. that tells you that opinions are divided. give it a shot, it may be for you. as for me, i listened about a quarter into the book then lost interest.

books like this do a serious disservice to lgbtq+ people. it reinforces common stereotypes (eg. gay men are feminine and gay women are masculine). these are lies that do good to no one.

The was a dull story until the point they brought the Prophet Elias in as the master of demons. Before that it was a 3-star review. Performance is good, though.

Treasure Island is a classic story. You knew that. This book isn't directly that story, but an audio play adaptation. If you're not familiar with this format, give it time. I see reviewers below complaining about it. it may take time to get used to it. This is not my first time listening to this format, but I sympathize with those who struggle with it. If you keep on listening, you will probably come to like it. But of course, if you listen to 20 or 25% and you still don't like it, move to something that's right for you.
