excellent ghost story!
Revisado: 12-21-23
i was very pleasantly surprised to find this logical ghost story! solid plot. intelligent characters. some intense and scary moments—scary enough that i kept the lights on while reading late at night! The scary parts were nicely balanced with humor, explanations how this story universe worked, and even the beginning of a sweet romance. There is so much to appreciate about this book. And even though I found one of the main characters very annoying, Stacy was a believable modern woman and never backed down in tough situations. All in all I highly recommend this book!

These stories are such a treat. I didn’t know authors could still write like this. Excellent stories, subtle sound effects that actually enhance the story, stellar performance, and stories that resonate long long after setting my iphone down. Highly recommend!

Intelligent Horror
Revisado: 03-20-22
Just discovered Horror Hill. I’ve read/listened to 4-6 books a week since 1960. I started with scifi/Andre Norton and horror/Alfred Hitchcock—the fiction available to a 7 year old. Progressed to read everything possible. I find most fiction predictable nowadays. I’ve only listened to 4 stories from this podcast. Each one has been incredibly well written and performed. There are sound effects, again extremely well done. I never missed a word or was distracted away from the story. The stories echo in my mind long after I step away from my device. I dont say this lightly— these are stories i will keep and reread until my end time. Highly recommend.

Historia
This audiobook collects Wellman’s John Thunstone and Lee Corbet stories, written between 1943 and 1979. These stories combine the mystical and horrific with traditional Southern folk tales and legends. These stories also reveal a post-World War II modernism that make them much more then pulp romanticism. The paranoia and cynicism of modern weird icons, such as The X-files, may well have had their genesis in the pulp musings of Manly Wade Wellman.

Absolutely one of the best
Revisado: 09-11-21
I have read/listened to thousands of books 5 books a week for most of my life in almost every genre. Many ok/good. Some very good but only a few authors can I reread multiple times. John D MacDonald, John sandford, some of the writers from the old Weird Tales and always, especially Manly Wade Wellman. Especially the tales set in the area of the North Carolina mntns (and urbane John Thunstone). These stories are so evocative of time and place as well as of supernatural occurrences. Print versions of Manly Wade Wellman tales are hard to find although a few collections can be found at archivedotorg. The volumes at audible com are superlative and are a must for any MWW fan.

Without Further Adieu
Revisado: 10-28-18
Sometimes it is something very, very trivial that makes us like/dislike something. The multiple "without furthe r adieu" drove me crazy, like grinding teeth together. It ruined the Performa nc for me.
