Historia
Using his legendary ability to get to the root of human potential, Napoleon Hill digs deep to reveal how fear, procrastination, anger, and jealousy prevent us from realizing our personal goals. This long-suppressed parable, once considered too controversial to publish, was written by Hill in 1938 following the publication of his classic bestseller, Think and Grow Rich. Annotated and edited for a contemporary audience by Rich Dad, Poor Dad and Three Feet from Gold coauthor Sharon Lechter, this book is profound, powerful, resonant, and rich with insight.

Important Work Marred by "Editing" & "Annotating"
Revisado: 11-14-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The original text would be necessary without "Annotation" or "Editing"
A work such as this should have been presented in complete original form
without the marketing nonsense associated with an "Editor" reinterpreting a great work.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The core of the story is witty and thought provoking.
How could the performance have been better?
An obvious and transparent attempt by the "Editor" to Glom on to the magic of Napoleon Hill's writings.
Eliminate the "Editor" speaking. There is absolutely no value added by the editors comments. In fact the work is more powerful without the added statements.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Napoleon Hill's Outwitting the Devil?
All that involve the Editors voice. Is the reader not sufficient to interpret the work for themselves..?
Any additional comments?
A very worthy work substantially harmed by the intrusive "Editing" and "Annotations"
Mr. Hill does not need to be interpreted or edited. To do so is shameful and usurious. To edit is to change. It is insulting to the reader to think that editing is necessary for such an accomplished writer as Mr. Hill.

Historia
Famous for its unflagging narrative power, fine organization, and irresistibly persuasive arguments, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire has earned a permanent place of honor in historical literature. Gibbon's elegantly detached erudition is seasoned with an ironic wit, and remarkably little of his work is outdated.

Enormously Important, Fataly Flawed Delivery
Revisado: 01-22-12
What would have made The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Volume 2 better?
This is obviously one of the most important western works of literature, and should be on the list of every serious reader. Unfortunately there are several major flaws with this rendition.
First and foremost, this is a very very poor, almost unlistenable recording. It is either very old and uncared for or it was just plain technically poor when recorded. Unless you have a tin ear it will be excruciating to endure it for long.
Second the reader has a very thick British accent and peculiar annunciation and timing. This, combined with the imperceptible mumbling lows and over modulated highs make this an unbearable recording.
Yet somehow, the absolute brilliance of the writing comes through.
It's just that it is so enormously fatiguing that I was unable to finish it.

Finest Audiobook Ever
Revisado: 09-05-07
I will be brief. The writing is absolutely superb.
The Narration, musical interludes and "Performance" is excellent beyond words.
Truly a world class performance by the narrator Kramer. After listening to dozens of audio books from audible and other sources, this is without a doubt the finest audiobook ever. Period! Once you hear this one, you'll be spoiled and everything else will seem ho-hum... I'll bet you a dollar that you will agree! A benchmark for all future audio book productions. Seriously.

Historia
Friedrich Hegel developed a profound and influential synthesis of all prior knowledge. He aimed to make philosophy an all-comprehensive science that would restate, in rational language, the truth of Christianity. In Hegel's vast speculative and idealistic philosophy, truth is found not in the part but in the whole. Nature is an organic whole shot through with rationality akin to the reason in ourselves.

Silly Accents
Revisado: 09-05-07
The Fake German accent is so silly as make me laugh. It completely negates the quality of the underlying writing by Hegel.
Too bad, since I am a fan of Heston the narrator.

SO-SO
Revisado: 04-25-06
NOT REALLY A "SPEECH", BUT RATHER A LOW-FI RECORDING OF A TELESEMINAR CALL. THE TYPE OF WHICH IS USUALLY FREE ON THE WEB. THE INTERVIEWER IS NOT OVERLY POLISHED OR SKILLED. THE INTERVIEWEE , MIKE LARSEN IS NOT DONE JUSTICE IN THIS SELECTION. IT DOES HOWEVER CONTAIN A FEW PEARLS, ESPECIALLY IN THE RESOURCES LISTED. NOT OF THE AVERAGE HIGH QUALITY SEEN IN VIRTUALLY ALL AUDIBLE PRODUCTS.
