Ready to lace up my boots now!
Revisado: 05-27-23
This trail is on my bucket list and Fahnestock took me along his adventure page by page, chapter by chapter. I laughed, gasped and felt right at home as he mentioned familiar places. Well done. Greatly enjoyed the sharing of this trip!!

Historia
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

Starts slow - but ends with a bang
Revisado: 11-17-20
I almost gave up on this book due to Alice’s character. She is whiney, bitchy and hard to please. However, I’m glad I stuck it out and able to see Alice transform. Was surprised by the twist and turns provided by Thomas and Alina - their story is the true gem.

Historia
Single, 30-something, and working as a writer in New York City, Kristin Kimball was living life as an adventure. But she was beginning to feel a sense of longing for a family and for home. When she interviewed a dynamic young farmer, her world changed. Kristin knew nothing about growing vegetables, let alone raising pigs and cattle and driving horses. But on an impulse, smitten, if not yet in love, she shed her city self and moved to 500 acres near Lake Champlain to start a new farm with him.

Really?
Revisado: 08-17-13
Can't help but think of them as being a little 'out there'. Really, he wants to live without electricity, build a house without nails, etc...? I live on a farm. We garden. We raise livestock. And, we raise all our own produce and meat. But, this couple is just way too granola for me. I picture them as being the ever present, freaky couple vending at the farmer's market... Very disappointed.
