Historia
Why do minds exist? How did mud and stone develop into beings that can experience longing, regret, love, and compassion - beings that are aware of their own experience? Until recently, science offered few answers to these existential questions. Journey of the Mind is the first book to offer a unified account of the mind that explains how consciousness, language, the Self, and civilization emerged incrementally out of chaos.

Thoughtful and intriguing super mind concept
Revisado: 12-04-23
An extra dimension to the story of evolution that redefined some categories in my mind. I found the super mind chapters especially intriguing, and the idea of religion as a barrier between superminds, like a cell membrane would be.

Slow at first by deep
Revisado: 05-18-23
I feel like I learned a lot from this book about meaning and life. A good bit of physics as well.

Historia
Human and Oankali have been mating since the aliens first came to Earth to rescue the few survivors of an annihilating nuclear war. The Oankali began a massive breeding project, guided by the ooloi, a sexless subspecies capable of manipulating DNA, in the hope of eventually creating a perfect starfaring race. Jodahs is supposed to be just another hybrid of human and Oankali, but as he begins his transformation to adulthood he finds himself becoming ooloi - the first ever born to a human mother.

Alien story, but only one track
Revisado: 04-17-23
This story was interesting and certainly alien with some good concepts but the whole series was so narrowly focused on its single premise that it didn’t have much room for much plot of complications.

The Overlords appeared suddenly over every city - intellectually, technologically, and militarily superior to humankind. Benevolent, they made few demands: unify earth, eliminate poverty, and end war. With little rebellion, humankind agreed, and a golden age began.

I know why this is a classic, excellent story
Revisado: 12-05-22
I see so many parallels and references to this in other sci-fi that I never knew was a reference. Great story.

Like watching someone play Civilization
Revisado: 06-17-21
Pretty boring with no real science fiction aspects after the first chapter. No intrigue. Little dialog. Just all around boring. Guy progresses a pre industry civilization by means of his knowledge of chemistry. Bleh.

Historia
This odd, irreverent spiritual memoir chronicles the author's accidental hallucinogenic journey to God and back with blunt comic undertones, undercutting the lofty gravitas typically associated with the "meeting God" genre. While making no claims regarding the "proof" of God in any way, this light-hearted true story is an entertaining and thought-provoking journey into the psychology of religion and the existence of God.

Egoistic and boring
Revisado: 12-31-18
I am amazed not by the content of the story, but by the fact that someone would consider it worthy of a book. It's like a long boring drug-induced dream, interspersed with moralistic ponderings on Christianity and detailed dentistry narratives.
