Bernd's books are excellent narrations on naturalism, w/ keen insights & observations into flora & fauna -- the focus of this work being on winter seasons

the name of the game seems to be survival, as animals & plants have respectively unique ways of getting through the freeze

from hibernating bears to busy-busy birds; to adapted trees & of course migration -- we are given a huge overview, w/ Henrich's familiar methods & vigor

i'm skeptical about viruses & their reality; having researched 'them' during & since the C19 plandemic, & can ultimately separate quibbles like those w/ the greater effort here, which is really good, & worthwhile 👍

i first read Heinrich's extremely good "Mind of the Raven," & was surprised this was by the same author partway in

to be fair, back in the 2000s when this was written, i too believed in Newtonian physics & heliocentrism; so i give Bernd a pass when he repeats the completely farcical notions that rotten philosophy has borne us [this is to say, Earth is a flat/plane realm; totally different than what we're commonly taught]

i loved his observations of plant & animal life as the seasons move from winter into spring & summer, which is the time-window this book focuses on

he details so many interesting insect, bird, tree, flower, etc. behaviors that i do recommend this book

next i shall try his "Winter World," thinking i know what to expect

like a gift to mothers, this one tells the tale of A. Honnold [the climber]'s dear mother, & her autobio up to the fairly recent, w/ Alex free-soloing El Capitan & her climbing it just before w/ ropes/gear; great journey

inspiring, thought-provoking, exemplary, motivational...

thoroughly enjoyed -- a thought-provoking & spanning concept of "stoned ape" theory, which is something like connecting humanity's clear penchant for mild-altering substances [see: conscience] driving our evolution, industries, cartels, science, etc.

he goes from ancient concoctions like soma to more modern substances like heroin & LSD; touching on DMT & Ayahuasca, magic mushrooms, & so on...

this actually provided an excellent case for this notion, which seems logical & well-attested -- also w/ plenty of factoids for the ol' trivia [noting that tobacco has yet to be prohibited, likely for good reason]

ultimately, the conclusion seems to be that Free Man MUST be given allowance of his nature to self-explore using these & such substances, w/ respect to the safety & wellness of others [of course]

i'd like to read more of McKenna's books, although see he passed in 2000; so will try

that seems to be the necessity of books like these, as they appear to include 'mythology' as well as "real tales," lol

again, tho, w/ chapters on Space Exploration, it's immediately evident that either the author is lying blatantly or completely missing the more pressing issue of, erm, astronaut hoaxes & our beloved flat Earth

i appreciated tidbits of insight throughout, although it's hard to believe tales like deep-sea dives w/ leaking [& magically stopping] windows & explosions w/ only chocolate bars to eat

tales of polar exploration are notoriously questionable, ESPECIALLY when being claimed as South Pole [anything other than a ring of ice i'm more or less calling BS]

guess i enjoyed it, hehe

this [audio]book tales the adventure from New York to San Francisco via the Cape Horn [S. America] passage

having just finished "Sailing a Serious Ocean," there are a lot of similar themes here: sailing + etiquette, travails at sea, handling crises as they occur, boat repairs...

i found myself researching small sailboats to attempt something similar, hehehe

great material(!)

thoroughly enjoyed this one

a practical guide & storybook of sailing in ‘blue water,’ which appears to be (deep) ocean

we learn about actual necessities of boats [recommended equipment, etc.], including materials & gadgets, crew-sizes/roles, etc.

John here has made me WANT to sail the Atlantic, or something comparable(!) that’s a big feat, hahaha

we hear of rogue waves, hurricanes & tornados, the fun(*) of buying a boat, etc. etc. etc.

basically i recommend this book thoroughly & will likely keep reading his material

audiobook read by the author (👍👍), this one tells the story of Michael's homemade 'work cabin' or whatever it's deemed: a place to write & such

he employs architects & friends to help him learn the ropes of carpentry, learning & relaying (to us) much in the process

i learned about balloon framing, which was the innovation that led to lower-cost, easy-to-assemble houses w/ more customization

Pollan puts his usual touch into this book, teaching as he goes [a blend of research w/ hands-on]; arriving at a completed structure by the end

t'was his second book, which leaves me w/ 2 or 3 for future discovery [one of my fav. authors here] -- still to go: "Omnivore's Dilemma," "Food Rules," & "Pollan Family Table"

lots to know/learn about flying, & this book [originally published in 1944] covers most of the pitfalls once airborne; offering a practical & functional conceptual base for correct procedures, which of course can save lives

i thought it was particular that he emphasizes that the key elements of flight are buoyancy & angle of attack, which makes sense when considering air similar to water in how it is a real medium w/ real properties

he explains how many new aviators will commonly pull back on the stick, increasing their angle of attack too much; causing a stall -- thinking it's the height-adjustment

he describes how the Wright Brothers hardly invented the airplane itself, although iterated big time w/ the aileron, which allows steering & turning by, at first, adjusting the wings -- then later just flaps on the wings [huge breakthrough]

he elaborates that the rudder causes more accidents than need be, & modern planes do away w/ it for the most part, which is good -- similar w/ stick angle limiters [he details how to correct from stalls & nosedives using better techniques]

really, this makes me want to learn & fly a plane

OH, i thought it mentionable that he describes the horizon as always rising to eye level [flat-Earth!!!] &, along w/ buoyancy as the primary lift agent [saying wings are pressing down on air; thus flight], this confirms yet another element of FE cosmology [which says gravity is a farce more or less -- it's all about buoyancy & density within a medium]

people who are/were trained on globe-Earth models & led to believe in gravity & other wrong notions are more prone to conceptual accidents -- makes sense(!!)

good stuff

this was one of those books that, when compared to what i think are clearly better theories/concepts/ideas, seems to be chocked full of complete BS

for instance: all of the gravity chapters & summations are kinda null when Gravity itself is almost certainly farcical -- i'd recommend looking into flat-Earth cosmology [just started the extremely good "Zetetic Astronomy" by S.B. Rowbotham which is leagues beyond this specific work]

anywho, i stuck w/ the book & considered all/most of the info inversions of reality, like space travel [bogus], atoms [probably bogus], black holes [likely bogus], the laughable figures for heliocentric distances...

so yea, i'm glad to see how flimsy the "evidence" for pseudoscience is, coming from a proponent of those Lies, & recommend Rowbotham's "Zetetic Astronomy" instead to get your noodles boilin'
