I cannot put down these books!
Revisado: 12-28-24
I'm so grateful to K.F. Breene for introducing me to this new genre! I would have never picked it up, but the first book was in a Plus Catalog, so I decided to try. Somehow I find these books incredibly therapeutic: they allow me to be outrageously silly, let my hair down, and not be so serious all the time.
The story is gripping and unpredictable, so I keep wanting to know what happens next. I love the mix of action, sensuality, silliness and magic. All characters are described in minute detail - I see them in my mind, like I'm watching a movie. Nieve is the funniest, although all of them are amazingly grotesque (in a good way). Nicole Poole is a fantastic narrator, she has a different voice for each character and seamlessly juggles them without skipping a beat - that is a real talent!!!

Historia
In a remote Polish village, Janina devotes the dark winter days to studying astrology, translating the poetry of William Blake, and taking care of the summer homes of wealthy Warsaw residents. Her reputation as a crank and a recluse is amplified by her not-so-secret preference for the company of animals over humans. Then, a neighbor, Big Foot, turns up dead. Soon, other bodies are discovered, in increasingly strange circumstances. As suspicions mount, Janina inserts herself into the investigation, certain that she knows whodunit. If only anyone would pay her mind....

Spellbinding
Revisado: 08-24-23
The book was gripping and spellbinding, I kept wanting to listen more and longer. Great story and amazing descriptions of little nuances, details of characters, I felt immersed in a dream. The narrator was absolutely perfect for this book - I loved the unhurried pace and punctuated delivery. What a treat! So grateful and got more books by the author. Bravo!

Historia
In a Tokyo suburb, a young man named Toru Okada searches for his wife’s missing cat—and then for his wife as well—in a netherworld beneath the city’s placid surface. As these searches intersect, he encounters a bizarre group of allies and antagonists. Gripping, prophetic, and suffused with comedy and menace, this is one of Haruki Murakami’s most acclaimed and beloved novels.

Historia
Destined to become a classic of adventure literature, The Last Season examines the extraordinary life of legendary backcountry ranger Randy Morgenson and his mysterious disappearance in California's unforgiving Sierra Nevada - mountains as perilous as they are beautiful. Eric Blehm's masterful work is a gripping detective story interwoven with the riveting biography of a complicated, original, and wholly fascinating man.

Great book for those who love the mountains
Revisado: 07-22-19
This book was inspiring to me as it resonated with my love for nature, hiking and High Sierra mountains. It also made me respect rangers more and pay more attention when I'm on the trails. So sad to learn how rangers are treated while risking their lives. I wish we lived in a better society that valued their work! So sad to learn how much garbage people leave behind... The first chapter was a bit hard to get through for me, it felt a bit too long or too slow, but then it all flowed nicely, I couldn't stop listening.
