Historia
1973. A final, top-secret mission to the Moon. Three astronauts in a tiny module, a quarter of a million miles from home. A quarter of a million miles from help. As Russian and American crews sprint for a secret bounty hidden away on the lunar surface, old rivalries blossom and the political stakes are stretched to breaking point back on Earth. Houston flight controller Kazimieras "Kaz" Zemeckis must do all he can to keep the NASA crew together, while staying one step ahead of his Soviet rivals. But not everyone on board Apollo 18 is quite who they appear to be.

Great read from start to finish
Revisado: 11-19-21
Really enjoyed the story and characters in the audiobook. Ray Porter was excellent as usual, including some pretty tricky language.
I loved it enough to buy a couple of copies in hardcover to give as gifts.

Historia
"You look like a thing and I love you" is one of the best pickup lines ever...according to an artificial intelligence trained by scientist Janelle Shane, creator of the popular blog AI Weirdness. She creates silly AIs that learn how to name paint colors, create the best recipes, and even flirt (badly) with humans — all to understand the technology that governs so much of our daily lives.

Lots of referring to the PDF
Revisado: 07-14-21
I found the book quite good. But as an audio book it suffers from frequent need to refer to the PDF diagrams. It’s a subject perhaps not ideal for audio.
I have read quite a bit on the subject of machine learning, and I’m not sure whether this book would be clear enough for a newcomer. Maybe. I’ll likely buy a hardcopy as a gift.

Historia
This book will explore whether we can successfully align our politics with climate science and the conditions under which it may be possible to act boldly. Canada’s WWII experience, Klein contends, provides a reminder that we have mobilized in common cause and retooled our economy in a few short years.

End notes should be left out of audio book
Revisado: 05-30-21
I found the book good and informative. It was read well, but it doesn’t make sense to read the end notes. Some chapters have 10 minutes of h-t-t-p-colon-slash... I’d think it would be better to get the references from Seth’s website.

Historia
We may not realize it as we listen to the soundtrack of our lives through tiny earbuds, but music and all that it encompasses is disappearing all around us. In this fable-like story, three musicians from around the world are mysteriously summoned to Nashville, the Music City, to join together with Victor to do battle against the "Phasers", whose blinking "music-cancelling" headphones silence and destroy all musical sound. Only by coming together, connecting, and making the joyful sounds of immediate, "live" music can the world be restored to the power and spirit of music.

Not my genre
Revisado: 05-06-21
I really loved the Music Lesson, though the end became a bit out there for me. This continuation of that story unfortunately continued in that mode... way outside. Like the avant garde part of a jazz festival, some may enjoy it but it eluded me.
Victor and the other voices are done well, though I found some hard to hear at times.
But where I learned a lot from the first book, this one dragged me through a weak story and presented few new ideas. I should have stopped at the first book.

Another great Ryan story delivered with style
Revisado: 01-04-13
I've been following the stories of Jack Ryan and company since the 80's, always looking forward to the next instalment from Tom Clancy. This one continues the saga in a way that I think incorporates all the original values of the Ryan stories really well.
There are equal parts fast-paced plot and technology exposure. This time, although there is lots of detail of weapons used, etc., there is also a lot of computer technology in the picture. I've always found the technology aspect to make Clancy's stories more interesting.
Once again, the audio book is read by Lou Diamond Phillips with great pacing, consistent voicings, and an overall excellent presentation.
A great read!

Historia
David Novak learned long ago that you can't lead a great organization of any size without getting your people aligned, enthusiastic, and focused relentlessly on the mission. But how do you do that? There are countless leadership books, but how many will actually help a Taco Bell shift manager, a Fortune 500 CEO, a new entrepreneur, or anyone in between? Over his 15 years at Yum! Brands, Novak has developed a trademarked program he calls Taking People with You.

Well paced and interesting - exercises not so much
Revisado: 04-06-12
Would you listen to Taking People With You again? Why?
I don't tend to re-read books very often, but this one had enough different aspects to it and a good pace. I might well revisit it in a year.
What about Sean Pratt’s performance did you like?
The book was well read, clear and easy to follow. The infrequent other characters were subtly different from the main narration voice. Overall very well presented.
Any additional comments?
My only negative comment on the book was that it contains regular exercises to examine your own work and life situations. This sort of exercise is hard to picture in audio form, and clearly requires sitting down and working at the exercise. I tend to listen to audio books on the move, and will naturally not stop to do the exercises.
