Daniel is prepared to risk his life in order to keep his Talent safe, but when he's assigned to 19-year-old Anna Saint-James, he discovers that his life isn't the only thing he could lose. Anna has no idea how special she is and knows nothing about her abilities. He must teach her to control her gifts, keep her safe, and hope that he can find a place in her life as something more than just her bodyguard.

A Talented Muse
Revisado: 05-23-18
This was a fun and engaging fantasy novel with an excellent reader. This book feels geared towards young adults and while action packed and full of entertaining characters that the reader does an great job bringing to life and individualizing, the description of the book is essentially all the mythology you learn throughout the entire novel and leaves you with a lot of questions that never get answered (e.g. There are Guardians that protect Talents, the mortal descendants of Muses, that apparently unnamed people are always trying to kill?!). That said, I still might listen to the next book in the series, just to see what happens, especially if done by the same reader.

Manson Family Wannabe
Revisado: 04-13-18
Would you try another book from Emma Cline and/or Cady McClain?
I would possibly read another one of Emma Cline's books, but most likely after she has matured more in age and experience.
What could Emma Cline have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I enjoyed that it was from the women's perspective, but I thought the older woman's view reflecting back on her youth was flat - it didn't seem real and I think may have been a reflection of the author being so young herself. I thought the writing was beautiful, but still focused so much on the men. I would have really preferred more time and interactions with just the women. I also think it was so similar in every way to the Manson family story, that Emma really could have done more research on cults and communes in Sonoma and Mendocino counties at the time to get more of a variety - or changed some of the ending so it as not such a copycat story.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Cady McClain?
Sure.
Could you see The Girls being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
I hope not. It is basically a copy cat of the Manson family story, just from the girls perspective - so other than that dynamic it would not be very interesting.
Any additional comments?
Beautiful writing, but still lacked something for me. I hope Emma continues to write, I think she is talented and would read other books in the future.

Historia
Call Me by Your Name first swept across the world in 2007. It is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. During the restless summer weeks, unrelenting but buried currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them and verge toward the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy.

Heart of Hearts
Revisado: 04-13-18
What did you love best about Call Me by Your Name?
Call Me by Your Name really dives into the mind of young and obsessive love that most of us have at some point felt - whether we view that as unlucky or lucky! It is a type of love and lust that burns you up, so is rarely sustainable but is one that leaves it mark on you for a lifetime. It is also about people making painful choices, for a variety reasons, that don't always revolve around happily ever after or true love like we so often think life is meant to - because in order to achieve that we'd have to give up so much. Like so many of those love affairs, I wanted to live inside the joy and sadness of that story even though I knew I never would be able to.
Who was your favorite character and why?
While Elio and Oliver were very lovable, I think I actually loved the parents and maybe the father the most. There was a lot of reasons they could have stepped in and tried to stop what grew between Elio and Oliver, but their unconditional love and acceptance of their son allowed them to leave him to having that necessary journey of discovery of self and love - even though they knew it would possibly cause him pain or complicate his life. We can only hope for parents or anyone who loves us that much in our life.
What about Armie Hammer’s performance did you like?
I could listen to Armie Hammer's voice for the rest of my life. I think he did a good job of capturing the urgency of feelings that Elio had in the book - though I admit it was a little weird at times since I know he plays Oliver in the film.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The title is really perfect, Call Me By Your Name
Any additional comments?
The book definitely has some explicit love scenes, more so than the movie, but they make sense for the book and story and do not seem overdone to me.
