Historia

Refresh your French and think about consciousness
Revisado: 07-14-18
I chose this audiobook (as the reviewer of Prof. Guenancia's earlier piece on Descartes, Spinoza, etc. noted, it's a lecture, not a book per se) because I wanted to use my driving/commuting time to sharpen my understanding of phenomenology and -- why not? -- my French listening skills at the same time. I did not really think this would work; it's been over 40 years since I sat in a university classroom and discussed philosophy in French. However, as the other reviewer noted, Prof. Guenancia's delivery is stunning. His thoughts are well-formed and he speaks very clearly. I think I have about 95% comprehension -- which is somewhat amazing considering my lack of practice! Guenancia's manner is engaging and he clearly is passionate about the work of the philosophers he discusses. I am on my second listen -- there is a lot of "meat" in what's presented that requires reflection. I also find I am understanding almost everything now -- just missing a word here and there. This audiobook would seem to have a fairly restricted "niche" market, but I was delighted to find it available on Audible and only wish there were more French-language philosophy titles available.
