Historia
With Thomas Jefferson's purchase of the vast Louisiana Territory, the U.S. President was one step closer to realizing his dream of a nation spanning the oceans. The next step was exploration of this new geographical possession. Thus began the unbelievable four-year odyssey chronicled in Lewis and Clark: The Great American Expedition.

Far better than I could have emagined!
Revisado: 12-09-17
Years ago, I read the full written account of the expedition.
It WAS interesting, but so long, that I kept loosing tract of the story in places.
This, on the other hand is far more enjoyable.
I'd recommend both, if you're really interested, but start with this one first.

Historia
Thomas shares many of the family traits, particularly the ability to find himself reluctantly at the sharp end of many major events of his age. Flashman, gives an illuminating account with a unique perspective. It details feats of incredible courage, (not his, obviously), reckless folly, and sheer good luck that were to change the future of India and the career of a general who would later win a war in Europe.

Long live Thomas Flashman
Revisado: 08-12-17
The Flashman family seems to produce characters who are less than respectable. Cads and scoundrels, actually. You may not like the main characters at first, but in a short time you'll become addicted to their stories.
What will keep you hooked is not just the historical facts and events, but how anybody could scrape through one disaster after another.
Here's hopping that Robert Brightwell and Henry Clore Harrison have a long and productive future with this Flashman series.
My only complaint? That the books aren't twice as long.

Historia
This epic novel by master writer James Clavell, loosely based on the Namamugi Incident and Anglo-Satsuma War that took place in the late 1800s, is a richly researched, panoramic view of Japan’s budding relationship with the Western powers, its sweeping societal changes, and the political upheaval that followed.

I found this story good, but hard to follow
Revisado: 06-14-17
There were to many characters that blended togather, and John Lee, while good, just wasn't as good as the narrator of Tai-Pan.
The story was interesting, but I'll have to listen to it again at a later date. Trying to do it casually just left me lost.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

I've put this book off far to long!
Revisado: 06-14-17
The story sounded mildly interesting to me, but I had no clue about what direction it would take. And I'm not about to spoil it and tell you!!!
Let me just say that I went through the whole story always surprised at each turn.
The narrator, George Guidall, does a good job in many of the books that he reads, but in this one..... His voice just fits this story perfectly.
My biggest regret is that I put it off so long. Now, I have to search through the other books that Helene Wecker has written.

Historia
Dirk Struan rose from humble beginnings to build Struan & Company, also known as the Noble House, into the world’s largest Far East trading company. He is now the Tai-Pan—Supreme Leader—of all Tai-Pans in China. Along the way, however, he made a powerful enemy. Tyler Brock, Struan’s rival from their early opium-smuggling days, also heads a large trading fleet, second in size only to Struan’s. But it is not only silks and spices that drive their mutual companies’ wealth—the opium trade is still booming.

Well worth the time
Revisado: 03-27-17
The "old" science fiction stories did well because they were entertaining.
Many of the Sci-Fi books today miss that point. This writer, and the book reader (Ray Porter), do their best to bring it back.
Frankly, there is very little that's new here. But you won't care. Just lean back and enjoy the ride.
The book moves forward at a nice clip with only a few places where you want it to hurry up. Fortunately they aren't many or long lasting.
When the next book comes out I'll buy that one too. So yeah, I can recommend it.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes tales are rightly ranked among the seminal works of mystery and detective fiction. Included in this collection are all four full-length Holmes novels and more than forty short masterpieces - from the inaugural adventure A Study in Scarlet to timeless favorites like “The Speckled Band” and more. At the center of each stands the iconic figure of Holmes - brilliant, eccentric, and capable of amazing feats of deductive reasoning.

GREAT from end to end
Revisado: 11-18-16
Unlike other compilations, this one can be listened to from beginning to end, one story right after the other.
And forget this being a great bargain. It's as entertaining today as it was 100 years ago, and THAT'S the main point.
Simon Vance, the narrator, does an exceptional job. There's enough variety in his reading that you won't loose track of which character is doing the talking.
Really, get this audiobook. You won't be sorry.
Notice - I listen to audiobooks at a faster than normal speed, and thus a slightly higher pitch. Your listening experience may be different.

The story of what happened to Flashman, the caddish bully of Tom Brown's Schooldays, after he was expelled in drunken disgrace from Rugby school in the late 1830s. This is the first of George Macdonald Fraser's hilarious satires starring Harry Paget Flashman.

Cad and scoundrel is too good for Harry Flashman
Revisado: 09-13-16
I read the first Flashman book (this one) about 1970.
My initial reaction within only a dozen pages was - "This is the worst character that I've ever read about"! I was very tempted to toss it.
But...
But I just had to keep reading to see what would happen next. How would he get out of some justly deserved punishment. Retribution might be a better word.
And he certainly deserved whatever he was to get!
.
And before I knew it I was hooked.
It's not only that the books are well written period piece's, but that it's fun to watch the main character get into, and barely survive, his self inflicted adventures.
I never looked back. I used to check the book stores for a new Flashman book every time that I went into one. I still have every Flashman book published in the US.
.
I've read this series over and over again in the past 46 years. And if there's one thing that I can say against this audiobook series it's that I'll have to buy them all of them again. :)

The upside of spending the night in the local lock-up is finding a hotel room is no longer a worry...but the downside is the man she's come to marry will get his first impression of her behind bars. That's not exactly the way Ivy was hoping to meet her pack's sworn enemy...aka her fiancé.

The first book was a great change of pace
Revisado: 08-08-16
But, this one is pretty much a typical "love story". Not, generally, my cup of tea.
On the other hand, the reader/narrator, B.J. Harrison, does a great job, and that alone keeps the story going.
I gave the "Story" only 3 stars, but that's for it being a typical love story.
However, the author, Kristen Painter, does a very good job in writing this story. For her writing abilities, I give it a full 5 stars.
Simply put, the two stories that I've read have new twists and turns around the old "love story" path.

But I think that this might be an author who gets better with time.
As is, I'll wait for a sale. Hopefully, that'll happen before I forget about having a *slight* interest in the series.
