When Tara Connelly is released from prison after serving eighteen months on a drug charge, she knows rebuilding her life at thirty years old won’t be easy. With no money and no prospects, she returns home to live with her siblings, who are both busy with their own problems. Sympathetic characters / excellent narration
Revisado: 04-21-25
The second book I’ve listened to by this author, and it’s another heartfelt story about imperfect but sympathetic people facing tough decisions. And I love this narrator !

Historia
The Kennedy name has long been synonymous with wealth, power, glamor, and—above all else—integrity. But this carefully constructed veneer hides a dark truth: the pattern of Kennedy men physically and psychologically abusing women and girls, leaving a trail of ruin and death in each generation’s wake. Through decades of scandal after scandal—from sexual assaults to reputational slander, suicides to manslaughter—the family and their defenders have kept the Kennedy brand intact.

Men behaving badly
Revisado: 04-13-25
Yes, this really rips apart the legendary Kennedy men. They are all portrayed as despicable. The women in their lives are supposedly victims, but they aren’t totally sympathetic either. Great narrator.

Total escape
Revisado: 04-13-25
Fun read, full lucious descriptions of food, decorating, entertaining, clothes and a beautiful setting. The only drawback is the too perfect resolution for each of the characters ( really, did one of them have to suddenly acknowledge that she is a lesbian ? It seemed unnecessary) Excellent narration.

Historia
It’s 1914, and World War I is ceaselessly churning through thousands of young men on both sides of the fight. The violence of the front feels far away to Henry Gaunt, Sidney Ellwood and the rest of their classmates, safely ensconced in their idyllic boarding school in the English countryside. News of the heroic deaths of their friends only makes the war more exciting. Gaunt, half German, is busy fighting his own private battle—an all-consuming infatuation with his best friend, the glamorous, charming Ellwood—without a clue that Ellwood is pining for him in return

War is hell
Revisado: 04-07-25
Heartbreaking and brutal, vividly contrasting the innocence and privilege of life at an English boys school with the horrors of war. What really makes this story special is the distinctive characters, friends (and enemies) formed in public school and carried into the war and the battlefields. The narration is superb.

Elvis and Joe and the cat
Revisado: 03-23-25
The best part of any Elvis Cole book is the unbreakable bond between him and Joe Pike. The humor is also fun, although there wasn’t much of that in this story. The other great reoccurring character is Elvis’ semi-feral cat. The plot here was pretty predictable, but it’s always fun to ride along with these two great guys. Not a fan of this narrator though.

Interesting premise, but I thought it was a mostly predictable ending. Narrator was ok. This is probably best appreciated by sci-fi fans.

Predictable
Revisado: 03-20-25
Too bad that the author went for a HEA ending. It just felt like a let down. As other reviewers have noted, the narration was pretty bad. It might have been more believable with a better voice actor.

When 29-year-old Sunday Brennan wakes up in a Los Angeles hospital, bruised and battered after a drunk driving accident she caused, she swallows her pride and goes home to her family in New York. But it’s not easy. She deserted them all—and her high school sweetheart—five years before with little explanation, and they've got questions. Sunday is determined to rebuild her life back on the east coast, even if it does mean tiptoeing around resentful brothers and an ex-fiancé. The longer she stays, however, the more she realizes they need her just as much as she needs them.
