Didn't want it to end.

A moving, funny, devastating, quirky, breathtaking, lovely book. Green writes about an assortment of very human things, and manages to find insightful angles to bring new perspective to what we see as ordinary, or strange, or what is unfamiliar to us. Beautifully written.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Gripped from start to finish

What an absorbing, brave, sharply funny, deeply moving story. McCurdy has a unique and observant voice, describing truly sad and disturbing moments, as well as amazing growth and fascinating insights, with the maturity and empathy the story deserves. My only complaint: it was too short. I want to hear more from this author.

Historia
For the millions of people who want spirituality without religion, Sam Harris’s new book is a guide to meditation as a rational spiritual practice informed by neuroscience and psychology. From bestselling author, neuroscientist, and “new atheist” Sam Harris, Waking Up is for the increasingly large numbers of people who follow no religion, but who suspect that Jesus, Buddha, Lao Tzu, Rumi, and the other saints and sages of history could not have all been epileptics, schizophrenics, or frauds.

Sam's writing is incisive and lucid as always, with soothing narration. A short, illuminating read.
