I was looking forward (hearing forward?) to enjoying this book. The author is very good and the story is very exciting. The author, Brad Stone, read the introduction with enthusiasm. I'm really sorry he didn't continue reading the book. As soon as the "official" reader came in, it felt like a bucket of cold water. Sorry, but I couldn't stand it. I returned the audiobook.

Bella storia, ottima narrazione, lettore meraviglioso.

I found this audiobook so enthralling that I just started listening again. As with any good book, the second time is very rewarding.

I see that other reviewers complain about things that, to me, are irrelevant. Of course, there is a lot of physics. Duh! However, the physics are beautifully explained and this knowledge will enrich (really ;-) people's knowledge of a subject that may have escaped them in high school.

An interesting tidbit in the PDF made me laugh. Probably some lawyers forced this CYA boilerplate:

"The characters and events in this book are fictitious. Any similarity to real persons, living or dead, is coincidental and not intended by the author."

This is the only nonsensical thing in the whole package.

Bravo to the author and to the reader. And many thanks to everyone involved in the production.

Great snippets but painful bit.do references

The author has gathered lots of wonderful references but the reader says "back-slash back-slash", and then" back-slash" again ad nauseam instead of just "slash slash "and then "slash" for http links.

Besides, the bit.do site that hosts the shortened links has been down for a month.

The reader is very good but this "back-slash" annoyance gets to be painful. Not an optimum experience.

Even so, I'm plowing through this audiobook because the material is good.

Almost perfect, but lousy sound cuts and splicing

Almost perfect on all counts (overall, performance, and story). The sound editor, however, destroyed some important passages with amateurish editing that interrupts the continuity of the narrative. The narrator should not have authorized such mangling of his otherwise excellent performance.

The author knows how to craft and build a story. There was no sagging middle and the ending was outstanding. This is a vital topic (indeed) and the treatment (so to speak) is worthy of the topic.

The narrator is one of the best I have heard on Audlble.

I arrived at this book because I enjoyed another book by the same author ("The Second Coming of Steve Jobs") and I decided to investigate all of his inventory. The title was a bit strange but I took a chance and I'm glad I did. He saves his "book title" punch line until the end, so I won't spoil it for you.

I look forward to more books by Alan Deutschman.

Great book but the narrator's voice is grating

Revisado: 01-25-17

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, but I would caution them against having to put up with a grating and unpleasant voice. The author is very enthusiastic and engaging, but his voice gets on your nerves.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Everything about this book is wonderful, including all the characters (TED presenters) mentioned by the author.

What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?

The narrator's extremely poor voice quality. I have listened to many (more than a hundred, perhaps) Audible books and, before Audible, to books on CD and to books on tape. I can instantly recognize a great narrator (Edward Herrmann) and a poor narrator (unfortunately, Chris Anderson).

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Everything is this book's content is truly wonderful.

Any additional comments?

I wish Audible would have some kind of "minimum viable narrator" criteria. It's sad that (with a few notable exceptions) authors tend to be the worst narrators for their own books. In general, authors should let professional narrators do the narration for them.

Great story, extremely poor narrator choice

Would you listen to Zero to One again? Why?

No. Once is enough, because the narrator's voice is unpleasantly grating, without any "gravitas". He sounds like a teenager. Audible has other excellent narrators. Why choose this particular narrator foir this wonderful book? I'm sure he's a perfectly nice person, but a "professional narrator" he is NOT.

Who was your favorite character and why?

N/A

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Terrible voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, while driving. But I'm really suffering as I listen to it. Sheer willpower is carrying me through.

Any additional comments?

Audible: Please be sure to choose narrators with good voices. This is your business, after all. Thanks.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

No. The story is wonderful, it is well written and excellently told by the author. Unfortunately, the narrator just doesn't have the necessary gravitas. His voice is high-pitched and is extremely annoying.

What other book might you compare Love and Math to and why?

"Steve Jobs" by Walter Isaacson. Great book, but lousy narrator. As a contrast, consider "Einstein", also written by Walter Isaacson, but narrated by Edward Herrmann. Night and day!

What didn’t you like about Tony Craine’s performance?

His voice is high-pitched and is gratingly annoying.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The same as the book's title: "Love and Math: The Heart of Hidden Reality"

Any additional comments?

If somebody could please get a good narrator to do justice to this book, I would buy that new edition in a heartbeat. Ditto for "Steve Jobs" by Walter Isaacson.

Meanwhile, I have purchased the paper & Kindle editions. I do a lot of driving and I enjoy listening to good books on the road, but I had to pull over and switch to something else with "Love and Math" and "Einstein". I just couldn't suffer listening to the narrators of these two (otherwise fantastic) books any more.
