Wandering Inn FANATIC Outlet! ♡
Revisado: 06-11-24
I'm so excited to find you guys! I just finished Tears of Liscor (which TORE ME UP!) I began TWI in November 2023. It's been a wild ride! I don't know anyone else IRL whose read any/all of these - so it's been wonderful to find this podcast! I decided to begin at the beginning and listen to your episodes in order until I catch up with my own reading. I sincerely hope that PirateAba, TWI and No Killing Goblins continues forever! Is that too much to ask? 🤣

Historia
It’s still winter, but everyone’s on the move. Rags the goblin is heading north, seeking allies against the Goblin Lord. And Erin is going home...or trying to, at least. She’s determined to bring back cheer to The Wandering Inn - as well as Christmas! But the coldest time of the year leads to strange encounters with a number of people. At the same time, Ryoka Griffin is far from what she would consider to be “home”. Deep in the north, in the city of Invrisil, she finds herself as the guest of Magnolia Reinhart.

Least Favorite of the Series
Revisado: 02-23-24
The Christmas ordeal seemed unnecessarily rushed as well as just plain unnecessary. The Evil Spirits or whatever made very little sense to me. It was creepy as &%ck, but I just didn't get it. Perhaps it'll be better explained at a later date. I didn't mind the length at all! I just thought a couple of the storyline were very strange.

Historia
The Wandering Inn has a princess who solves problems rather than creates them, and her name is Lyonette. Yet what happens when the innkeeper returns to manage her inn? Lyonette must learn to be a good employee rather than manage everything herself, and sharing power is never easy.... Nor is it ever simple in war, but that is where Geneva Scala remains. In bloodier and increasingly brutal battlefields, The Last Light of Baleros is now growing in fame, but there is no future there.

Historia
Infused with magic, shadows and starlight, the powerful godblades were believed to be lost nearly half a millennia ago, when the Godswar ended. Now, however, one has been found by the unlikeliest of wielders: Sampson Gaard, a blind but ambitious prince with something to prove. The only question is whether he controls the blade or the blade him. With an insidious evil lurking in the shadows, the answer may very well determine the fate of all Kingfall.

I CANNOT Get Enough Estes!!!
Revisado: 11-21-23
After binging the entire Fatemarked Epic, I was *delighted* to discover this follow-up series. This was a terrific debut to that new series. David Estes' writing style feels very comfortable to be at this point (some 6,000 pages in!) I love his world-building, I adore the multi POV, but most of all, I cannot get enough of his characters! They feel so real and varied. Each becomes fully fleshed-out. They live and grow as people, both individually, and in small groups. They are not without their faults (even the "good guys,") and the "bad guys" are not completely without good - or, at least, a back-story that we learn along the way that explains a lot about how & why they became who they are.
Estes included a neuro-diverse character in Fatemarked (who makes a cameo here in Kingfall, decades later.) Kingfall boasts a blind character. This idea of non-traditional or disabled characters in an epic fantasy was fascinating to me! And these are not the only two examples!
The different lands/continents of Kingfall are quite varied in landscape, biome and culture. The process by which these varied peoples gets to know one another is always a fascinating journey through real prejudices. Their ability to often come to accept, understand, and, sometimes, even love, others can teach us all a lot!
I, for one, do not feel these books are too long. There's a lot going on! And the incomparable Tim Gerard Reynolds could read a telephone book and make it sound interesting! When I find a story that I enjoy THIS much, I want it to go on and on! I don't want it to end! I sincerely hope that we have not seen the last epic fantasy from David Estes! And I cannot wait to continue The Kingfall Histories ... downloading Dragonfall NOW!

I am not a huge fan of Michael Kramer, but I ADORE Kate Reading - and, of course, Robert Jordan and The Wheel of Time have not become what they have on accident. It's a story you just can't help but love!

ok
Revisado: 11-18-19
we didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the others. also, the narrator, though he does an excellent job, speaks the narrator pieces very softly and the character dialogue *very* loudly. this makes it difficult to adjust the volume to a comfortable level.

For 60 years Eleanor Estes' classic novel about a family struggling to get along in the early part of the century has charmed and delighted readers with its warmth and gentle humor. Now it comes to life in a full cast recording that will have you laughing out loud...and occasionally wiping away a tear. Our whole cast fell in love with this book, and we predict that you will, too.

Historia
In Dad is Fat, stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan, who’s best known for his legendary riffs on Hot Pockets, bacon, manatees, and McDonald's, expresses all the joys and horrors of life with five young children - everything from cousins ("celebrities for little kids") to toddlers’ communication skills ("they always sound like they have traveled by horseback for hours to deliver important news"), to the eating habits of four-year-olds ("there is no difference between a four-year-old eating a taco and throwing a taco on the floor").
