2nd Read Changed My Mind!
Revisado: 01-17-25
BLUF: It may take two read throughs, but it’ll be worth it both times!
After reading this book the first time I was, like many readers, confused and frustrated.
HOWEVER, I reread this book recently and LOVED it. I highly suggest giving it a second chance. The sci-fi world created is so robust with language nuances. Once I became a little more familiar with it, I fell in love.

With High King Cardan and High Queen Jude willing to use any means necessary to retrieve their stolen heir, Oak will have to decide whether to attempt regaining the trust of the girl he’s always loved or to remain loyal to Elfhame and hand over the means to end her reign—even if it means ending Wren, too.

Couldn’t even finish
Revisado: 06-28-24
I was so excited for this second book… but the narrator is so wrong for this book and the characters. It’s awful.
I feel like a preschool teacher is reading to me during circle time. Its so out of place that I keep getting distracted and can’t concentrate on the storyline.
As well as Holly Black is doing I can’t believe she would have allowed this. So disappointing.

Great Story
Revisado: 06-18-24
I enjoy the variations of Peter Pan and this storyline does not disappoint. Great story filled with darkness and light. Downside is that there isn’t a lot that happens in the first book, but I was wrapped enough in the performance that I didn’t mind. Looking forward to book 2!

Historia
Eat Pray Love meets American Psycho in a seductive and sinister debut literary thriller. Food critic Dorothy Daniels indulges in her homicidal urges by murdering her lovers and devouring their organs in this intense, visceral, and lushly told tale of food, sex, power, and the pursuit of a very particular taste set between New York and Italy. Please Note: A Certain Hunger contains adult language and depictions of violence. Discretion is advised.

Raunchy, snobby, & altogether interesting
Revisado: 07-08-23
The story itself was an interesting combination of snobbery, female fatale, and cannibalism. As a fan of the Hannibal Lector series I was delighted to find another book mixing fine dining with cannibalism.
The narrator did a perfect job of performing the over embellished (often pretentious) language of Chelsea Summers.
Despite this, the bad reviews aren’t wrong. This book is very raunchy in a very tedious way. Add the endless metaphors on top of it, and it became exhausting at some points.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

This book is like butter in the southern heat. You melt seamlessly into another era, just savoring the experience. The characters are so addictive and you wish this was another 17 hours so you get to know them even more.

Interesting story
Revisado: 11-05-22
The story is a unique take on a serial killer. Its written to make you swerve in and out of Stockholm syndrome with character. Also most of the more violent acts were implied verses described, making this a good PG-13 psychological thriller verses a Stephen King horror.

Like butter melting on toast
Revisado: 04-21-22
I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again, Miller is one of those few authors whose writing can be described as a texture. The flow of her language and the careful choices in detail make you feel like… silky chocolate melting in your mouth. Wonderful!
Warning, I could see how this could be seen as a slow book, but it sure is savory!

My last attempt on Nix
Revisado: 04-21-22
When sampling it I was intrigued by the story and thought it was worth the risk of buying. Unfortunately, there was no reward to be found with this risk.
The writing style is reminiscent of a 15 year old in a creative writing class. I think I’m officially done with Nix. He is a great world builder (in theory), but lacks the writing ability to do it any justice.

Fantastic story and perfect narration
Revisado: 03-30-22
The author paints such a rich story, like one of those stories you can taste and fee. The narrator is the desert wine that makes it resonate. Simply fantastic.
Disclaimer: I have not refreshed myself on the history nor tale surrounding Achilles, and therefore cannot attest to its historical accuracy.
