Historia
In this eye-opening account, Cal Newport debunks the long-held belief that "follow your passion" is good advice. Not only is the cliché flawed - preexisting passions are rare and have little to do with how most people end up loving their work - but it can also be dangerous, leading to anxiety and chronic job hopping. After making his case against passion, Newport sets out on a quest to discover the reality of how people end up loving what they do.

I agree with both the praise and critical reviews
Revisado: 02-05-23
There are some valuable, actionable nuggets in here and enough to have helped create a spark in me to put in the necessary work to achieve what I'm after.
There were also tons of contradictions and examples that didn't make sense with the points he was trying to make.
I've seen other reviews that mention the example of the woman to quit her job to become a yoga teacher. He quotes her as saying "I love my job," and then immediately follows that by saying "I don't care that she loved her job" even though the entire point of the book is supposed to be about how to love your job.
In another example of a guitar player, he once again says he doesn't care about whether he is passionate about the guitar even though the whole theory of the book is how "Follow your passion" is bad advice. Not to mention that the title of the book comes from a Steve Martin quote, and Steve's story is all about how he worked to get good at what he was passionate about.
Without a doubt, the most valuable thing I got from this book was the reference to Steve Martin's quote which led me to purchase and listen to his book "Born Standing Up." I interrupted this book to listen to that one which I finished in two days and felt more inspired than ever before. So my recommendation would be to skip this book and go straight to that one instead.

Historia
Think and Grow Rich is the number-one inspirational and motivational classic for individuals who are interested in furthering their lives and reaching their goals by learning from important figures in history. The text read in this audiobook is the original 1937 edition written by Napoleon Hill and inspired by Andrew Carnegie - and while it has often been reproduced, no updated version has ever been able to compete with the original.

You either get it or you don't
Revisado: 03-18-22
The underlying principles described in this book are timeless, and apply not only to aquiring wealth, but to the entirety of the reality we create for ourselves. There are definitely some outdated examples and themes, but those are just accessories to the whole and can be easy to look past if you consider the time it was written. Go in with an open mind, a willingness to seriously consider and reflect upon the ideas described as well as your own reactions to them, and honesty in evaluating yourself and you will find everything you need.

So many things I needed to hear...
Revisado: 07-18-21
...it's always the simple stuff that gets me stuck. And the obvious things I need to do. But those are the things that my limiting beliefs revolve around, and Denise said them in exactly the way I needed to hear them so that I would feel empowered and excited to take action. Not everything resonated - we all have our own individual journeys and with so many different unique personalities, life situations, and business ideas, every word of this book can't possibly cater to them all. But the ones that did are the ones that I can thank for actually calling me to action and start creating the life I always knew I could have. I also really enjoyed the way Denise read the book. Feeling like I had her right there in my ear talking directly to me in such a human, relatable way made it so much easier to listen to, digest, and apply.

Historia
In this modern spiritual classic, the Tibetan meditation master Chögyam Trungpa highlights the commonest pitfall to which every aspirant on the spiritual path falls prey: what he calls spiritual materialism. The universal tendency, he shows, is to see spirituality as a process of self-improvement - the impulse to develop and refine the ego when the ego is, by nature, essentially empty. "The problem is that ego can convert anything to its own use," he said, "even spirituality."

Taste of Enlightenment
Revisado: 05-03-21
There is a lifetime of wisdom here. Incredibly eye opening in so many instances and on so many levels. Nuggets of information to reshape my awareness and thinking around things I have already experienced and so much more potential to come back to and understand in a new way with more experience and practice.

Surrender to it
Revisado: 03-24-21
This is it. The secret to bliss. And once you feel it, you realize it was never a secret at all. Listen with an open heart. If you have doubts and questions, observe them and be curious.
The format and organization of this book is wonderful. The question and answers made it into easily digestible chunks. The bells to indicate a transition were very much appreciated. The concept as it pertains to different aspects of life, situations, and viewpoints seamlessly transitioned from one to the next, giving it a feel of continuity. At the same time, each section on it's own is an entire lesson and can be read in any order for whatever speaks most to your current life situation.
His narrating is incredibly soothing. Hearing the calm and serenity in his voice reminds me to slow down and relax myself.
The teacher presents itself when the student is ready. Are you ready?

Wonderful, simple, actionable
Revisado: 10-05-20
Such a simple concept, really, that we are the creators of our lives. That we have the ability to identify programmed patterns, blocks, and beliefs that stand in our way and actual reprogram new patterns, thoughts, and behaviors to help us achieve the things we dream of. This book provides valuable insights and motivation to get you to think a little differently, and actionable activities to keep forward momentum on your progress. It's one I'm sure I'll revisit again. Just like with any other skill - always helpful to continue to return to the basics. I'm so glad that the author narrated herself as it felt more personal and authentic, and she had a voice that is pleasant and calming.
