Historia
Lydia Quixano Pérez lives in the Mexican city of Acapulco. She runs a bookstore. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is, by and large, fairly comfortable. When Lydia’s husband’s tell-all profile of Javier, the jefe of the newest drug cartel that has gruesomely taken over the city, is published, none of their lives will ever be the same.

Compelling, frightening, enlightening
Revisado: 04-27-21
I read this before knowing about the controversy. I don’t care who wrote it, whether she’s Latinx or not. It’s a great story, well worth reading.

Historia
From the day it was stolen from me, I dreamed of recapturing Bebbanburg. The great fort had been built on a rock that was almost an island. It was massive; it could be approached only on land by a single narrow track; and it was mine. Britain is in a state of uneasy peace. Northumbria's Viking ruler, Sigtryggr, and Mercia's Saxon queen, Aethelflaed, have agreed to a truce. And so England's greatest warrior, Uhtred of Bebbanburg, at last has the chance to take back the home his traitorous uncle stole from him so many years ago.

The Story Continues
Revisado: 05-17-18
I loved this whole series and every book in it. Flame Bearer does not disappoint but I recommend you start at the beginning of the Saxon Tales to appreciate the story flow. Plenty of realistic fighting and violence, historical context and characters.

Medicine in the Highlands!
Revisado: 05-17-18
If you liked An Irish Country Doctor, you'll enjoy Dr. Tom Smith's stories, too. I was longing for more of Patrick Taylor and this book fed the addiction nicely. Light, but realistic country doctor story with landscape, culture and history woven throughout, not to mention character development. Not laugh out loud funny, but humorous enough and far from dark.

Historia
In the heart of Elizabethan England, Richard Shakespeare dreams of a glittering career in one of the London playhouses, a world dominated by his older brother, William. But he is a penniless actor, making ends meet through a combination of a beautiful face, petty theft, and a silver tongue. As William's star rises, Richard's onetime gratitude is souring, and he is sorely tempted to abandon family loyalty.

Shakespear Up Close and Personal
Revisado: 05-17-18
Very different from the many battle stories I've read by Cornwell. Set in the 16th century, it takes a close look at life in the London theater of the time from the perspective of the bard's younger brother. A delightful "listen" that grows on you as it goes on. Narrator was subtle but effective doing the voices. It inspires me to go back and reread A Midsummer Night's Dream with a different lens.

A mesmerizing and courageous memoir: the story of two sisters uncovering the depth of their love through the life-and-death experience of a bone marrow transplant. Throughout her life Elizabeth Lesser has sought understanding about what it means to be true to yourself and, at the same time, truly connected to the ones you love. But when her sister, Maggie, needs a bone marrow transplant to save her life, and Lesser learns that she is the perfect match, she faces a far more immediate and complex question about what it really means to love.

Poignant Story of Sibling Love and Spirituality
Revisado: 05-17-18
True story of sisters who share a perfect match in blood type, leading to the potential for one to save the other's life. Sally Field is a wonderful narrator and the story moved me to laughter and tears many times throughout. Might be hard for someone currently fighting cancer to listen to, but highly recommended if you're helping a friend or relative go through it.
