Historia
When Betty MacDonald married a marine and moved to a small chicken farm on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, she was largely unprepared for the rigors of life in the wild. With no running water, no electricity, a house in need of constant repair, and days that ran from four in the morning to nine at night, the MacDonalds had barely a moment to put their feet up and relax. And then came the children. Yet through every trial and pitfall - through chaos and catastrophe - this indomitable family somehow, mercifully, never lost its sense of humor.

Too negative for my taste.
Revisado: 01-13-18
What disappointed you about The Egg and I?
The author seemed to see everything through pessimistic eyes. Plus I didn't care for all of the male-bashing.
Has The Egg and I turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I generally love books written about life in the 30's-50's.

Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Started great, but fizzled out in the middle.
Revisado: 01-13-18
What did you like best about Ready Player One? What did you like least?
Loved the first few chapters - original and just the right amount of detail to paint the picture but not drag the story. After that, Cline piles on more and more needless detail. And I felt that certain aspects of the story began to repeat themselves. The chapter on virtual self pleasuring seemed out of place and affected the age group I would recommend this story to (too mature for pre-teens).
Would you ever listen to anything by Ernest Cline again?
Possibly. I found the early chapters of the book, as well as the overall plot, interesting and enjoyable.
What about Wil Wheaton’s performance did you like?
Everything - he did a great job reading the part of a teenage boy.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Possibly.

Historia
When Haven Kimmel was born in 1965, Mooreland, Indiana, was a sleepy little hamlet of 300 people. Nicknamed "Zippy" for the way she would bolt around the house, this small girl was possessed of big eyes and even bigger ears. In this witty and lovingly told memoir, Kimmel takes readers back to a time when small-town America was caught in the amber of the innocent postwar period - people helped their neighbors, went to church on Sunday, and kept barnyard animals in their backyards.

Akin to a Junie B. Jones for grown ups.

Would you listen to A Girl Named Zippy again? Why?
Possibly - most of it was entertaining. There were some slow parts, but not distracting enough to deter my listening again.
What did you like best about this story?
The quirkiness of Zippy.
Any additional comments?
The writing style of this book reminds me of the Junie B. Jones series, except that Zippy is more entertaining for adults.

Historia
Here, from New York Times best-selling historian Francis Russell, is the dramatic story of Germany - from the rise of Charlemagne to the age of Martin Luther, from the 30 Years' War to the iron rule of Otto von Bismarck, and from the formation of the Weimar Republic to the fighting of two world wars.

A timeline of kings and wars.
Revisado: 01-13-18
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The headline says it perfectly - A Timeline of kings and wars. That's all you'll get from this book. Delving more into the motives and life stories of the individuals discussed would have been a great improvement. I also would have appreciated some description of the social customs, beliefs, and lifestyles of the people living in these time periods.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Something by the Great Courses - most of those have been outstanding.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of A. T. Chandler?
For reading from what sounds like a boring text book, he did o.k. Perhaps a little more variance in his tone, but really it was the substance of what he was reading that was the problem.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
If you're interested in a long list of kings and a brief description of the wars they engaged in, then this is the book for you.
