There needs to be more.
Revisado: 10-14-23
I must have more. I will not say what the cliffhanger was or who was involved, but oh my gosh, there must be more. It cannot be just this one book.
I realize this is not super helpful in terms of a review, but honestly, that is my take away. This was everything I was expecting and more. The predictions I had as I listened to the story play out did not go the way I thought they would, and I love it when that happens. It was amazing to hear the voices of most of my favorite characters again, and the ones that we’ve yet to hear, who knows? If this does become a series, I will absolutely be here for it just as I was for Buffy the Vampire Slayer all those years ago.

Historia
McCullough's John Adams has the sweep and vitality of a great novel. This is history on a grand scale, an audiobook about politics, war, and social issues, but also about human nature, love, religious faith, virtue, ambition, friendship, and betrayal, and the far-reaching consequences of noble ideas. Above all, it is an enthralling, often surprising story of one of the most important and fascinating Americans who ever lived.

Great book, great narration
Revisado: 04-30-21
Though I really wish Audible would work on breaking up the chapters as it is read.

Historia
The ancient city of Troy has withstood a decade under siege of the powerful Greek army, who continue to wage bloody war over a stolen woman - Helen. In the Greek camp, another woman watches and waits for the war's outcome: Briseis. She was queen of one of Troy's neighboring kingdoms until Achilles, Greece's greatest warrior, sacked her city and murdered her husband and brothers. Briseis becomes Achilles' concubine, a prize of battle, and must adjust quickly in order to survive a radically different life, as one of the many conquered women who serve the Greek army.

Great performances, writing style falls kinda flat
Revisado: 03-23-21
First off, I, like many, absolutely love Kristin Atherton's performance, and while he doesn't have nearly as many chapters to read as she does, Michael Fox is also very good. It was nice to hear Patroclus have a very masculine tone because, despite his sensitivity and kindness, he was also a fierce warrior. However... some of Pat Barker's dialogue took me out of the story. The language used by the characters seemed a lot more modern than I would expect for Ancient Grecian times, and more than once, "God" seemed to be used as if it was a single entity rather than the pantheon of gods and goddesses worshipped by the Greeks and Trojans alike. Why not say "For Zeus' sake," or even "For the gods' sakes" rather than "for God's sake?" That said, I certainly do not regret listening to this story. After reading Circe by Madaline Miller and A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes, it's still nice to hear stories focusing on the Trojan War and the Iliad with the women who were affected being a large part of the narrative.

Historia
Actor Jim Beaver (Supernatural, Deadwood, Justified) and his wife Cecily Adams (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Moogie) were at the peaks of their careers and happily raising a beautiful two-year old daughter, Madeline. Then tragedy struck, not once, but twice. What followed was laid down by Jim in a moving, poignant, and uplifting journal of the following year, a year filled with heartbreak as well as enormous gifts and invaluable lessons, not just for Jim and his family but for listeners who traveled along with him on his journey.

Fantastic
Revisado: 01-12-20
While Audible needs work on where to split the tracks, this was a wonderful book to listen to. To take such personal moments in his life and to share them with complete strangers, I thank Jim Beaver.
