No real insights here
Revisado: 11-21-22
As an Amazon employee, I bought this book to get a deeper understanding of the LPs from the point of view of someone very high up in the organization. How the LPs came to be, and how the "OGs" (Bezos, Jassy et al) implemented them in the early days. The good: there are some decent anecdotes here to illustrate each LP, and if you're the type that seeks inspiration, it might do the trick. The bad: many of these stories are already part of internal training, so I didn't really get much extra out of the book. It's as if the author took a bunch of company lore and packaged it for an external audience. I couldn't finish more than 3 chapters before getting bored and stopping.

Historia
A highly original, stirring book on Mahatma Gandhi that deepens our sense of his achievements and disappointments - his success in seizing India’s imagination and shaping its independence struggle as a mass movement, his recognition late in life that few of his followers paid more than lip service to his ambitious goals of social justice for the country’s minorities, outcasts, and rural poor.

Couldn't ignore the narrator's faked Indian accent
Revisado: 10-01-18
I was disappointed by the narration. Was it necessary to fake an Indian accent whenever reading out Gandhi's words? It started as an annoyance but I had to put this down after a few chapters. The content is still relevant though, so I'll be switching to the book version.

The real story of one of the greatest explorers who ever lived by the man described by the Guinness Book of Records as ‘the world's greatest living explorer’. Sir Ranulph Fiennes is uniquely qualified to write a new biography of Captain Scott. This is the first biography of Scott by someone who has experienced the deprivations, the stress and the sheer physical pain that Scott lived through.

Riveting tale, beautifully narrated by the author!
Revisado: 04-01-18
Would you consider the audio edition of Captain Scott to be better than the print version?
This audio edition is better for a simple reason: Ranulph Fiennes' narration. Definitely a good storyteller.
What other book might you compare Captain Scott to and why?
If you are looking for historical detail, Fiennes' own "Race to the Pole" is better source; but it's 3 times as long. If you're looking for the same high-level details but with a tighter storyline, go with this one.
Which scene was your favorite?
The slow trudge back from the Pole, defeated and starving, is incredibly moving.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Definitely made me sad.

Ben Horowitz offers essential advice on building and running a startup - practical wisdom for managing the toughest problems business school doesn’t cover, based on his popular ben’s blog. While many people talk about how great it is to start a business, very few are honest about how difficult it is to run one. The Hard Thing About Hard Things is invaluable for veteran entrepreneurs as well as those aspiring to their own new ventures, drawing from Horowitz’s personal and often humbling experiences.

Executed very well
Revisado: 10-17-16
Business books are hard to narrate - especially the "10 things to do" types. The narrator does a great job here, taking Ben Horowitz's content and making a narrative out of it. Ben has a lot of great stuff to say but the theme jumps from one topic to another very quickly. Overall a very informative and enjoyable read.

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Fantastic rendition of a classic story
Revisado: 06-08-16
If you could sum up Pride and Prejudice in three words, what would they be?
Austen + Pike = Magic
What did you like best about this story?
I've read the book a long time ago, but was intrigued by this rendition.
What about Rosamund Pike’s performance did you like?
Rosamund Pike is a perfect narrator for this story, bringing the characters and scenes to life so well that she herself disappears into the background.

What do the $350 million Ford Motor Company disaster known as the Edsel, the fast and incredible rise of Xerox, and the unbelievable scandals at General Electric and Texas Gulf Sulphur have in common? Each is an example of how an iconic company was defined by a particular moment of fame or notoriety; these notable and fascinating accounts are as relevant today to understanding the intricacies of corporate life as they were when the events happened.

Good but old business stories, poor narration
Revisado: 06-06-16
What did you like best about Business Adventures? What did you like least?
The stories are classics - if you're heard them for the first time. But odds are that anyone interested in business history (esp. Wall St history) has likely encountered them many times in the past.
What didn’t you like about Johnny Heller’s performance?
Dull performance, and (this is a personal preference, but...) I did not enjoy Mr.Heller's delivery style.
Do you think Business Adventures needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No, the material has been covered elsewhere. I'd retire this book.
Any additional comments?
Like many others, I was drawn to this book because of Bill Gates' and Warren Buffet's endorsement. I guess the lesson here is to NOT read a book based on what a celebrity says. Read stuff that's relevant to you - no book will give you the same insights that it gave them.

Historia
Few books have captivated the imagination and won the devotion and praise of readers and critics everywhere as has George R. R. Martin’s monumental epic cycle of high fantasy that began with A Game of Thrones. Now, in A Feast for Crows, Martin delivers the long-awaited fourth book of his landmark series, as a kingdom torn asunder finds itself at last on the brink of peace . . . only to be launched on an even more terrifying course of destruction.

Great, absorbing story but weird reading
Revisado: 07-27-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
No. The story is as gripping as ever, but the narration leaves a lot to be desired.
What did you like best about this story?
George R.R. Martin is rebuilding his world after Book 3, and the mix of old & new characters make fascinating reading.
How could the performance have been better?
I know it's not easy to create the hundreds of characters in a GoT book. But why does the narrator do all the voices in varying Scottish dialects? Characters such as Jaime and Petyr are made to sound as old as Pycelle. The female characters either sound shrewish or dumb. Also, what's with the pronunciations of Damphair as "damn fair", Brienne as "bry-een", or at one point calling Petyr Baelish "Petry"? Jarring.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. You can't with its length, but you sure want to.
Any additional comments?
If you can get past the quirky narration, it's a rewarding story to get into.
