Better than the first
Revisado: 11-03-23
I really enjoyed the first book even with the cliches and it all works out for the protagonist plot points. I was invested and I liked the character relationship building. Consistent with the growth of the characters, this one seemed to be a bit more mature, I guess. I’m not really one to enjoy military and war fight and die scenes, but this was a-ok. The story was just a lot bigger and more thought provoking. And I super like Ragnar as a character.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway - a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors.

What beautiful story telling
Revisado: 12-29-15
Where does The Night Circus rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is one of the best audiobooks I've listened to, hands down. It is such beautiful story telling and the narration is fantastic.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved that the story was a *story*. It wasn't focused on magic for magic's sake. The focus was on character, world, and relationship development. I was swept up immediately and never lost it due to forced silly magic.
Which character – as performed by Jim Dale – was your favorite?
The clock maker.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I don't know ... but I imagined the lead, if this were a movie, as being casted by Mary from Downton Abbey.
Any additional comments?
love love love this story.

Historia
Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

Magic without the eye rolling
Revisado: 11-18-15
This story telling of magic people in the backdrop of 1930s Americana is just fantastic. I appreciate having a story of magic without the need to force every origin detail down your throat. The whys and hows come out through the plot.
I couldn't wait to hear the next bit of story in my car. The characters are all fantastic, and there are no eye-rolling moments of dialog. Bronson Pinchot is AMAZING in this. Just wow.

I don't usually do Zombie, but this was good
Revisado: 07-03-15
I don't know why but zombie stories don't usually keep me interested. Creepy, sure, but I dunno. Just not my thing. However, I thought this story was unique and interesting; I quite enjoyed it.
The only thing I am annoyed at is the scientist in the story is the same ol' cold-hearted machine-head who can't seem to speak a sentence without jargon or interact with emotion. This is a trope I'm rather bored of.
Nonetheless... it was a good alternate to the virus tactic. Recommend!

Fun, unique, & quick
Revisado: 02-17-15
I've been trying to read/listen to more science fiction. I stopped for a while because it seemed like story after story was trope after trope, and the obvious shoved down the proverbial throat. So, im in the hunt for different stories, or
If there are tropes, at least with a twist or an olive.
Here is a story I've never heard, so therefore it has everything going for it. Aliens yes, but not like you've read before. Hollywood yes, but with more comic relief and no vapid rambling.
Also, narration was excellent. Cheers.

First scifi hit for me in a while
Revisado: 02-08-15
SF stories have been pretty disappointing for me lately, so this was just surprisingly good in comparison. I didn't like the name, nor the first 10 minutes of the book. But then I got hooked. I am not sure what it was about this book, but I was in. Totally in. I would listen on my way to work and have to snap out of it to make sure I didn't miss my exit! The characters are compelling in their realish personalities, the story is unique despite alternate world/end of the world tropes, and even the superhero qualities are written with fresh ... freshness.
