Historia
The men on the SS Marine Electric sailed into a storm in February 1983 not knowing that they would make history - at a great cost in lives. Just three men survived the wreck of the Marine Electric off the shores of Virginia and they found that their struggle had just begun once they got back to shore. Blamed for the wreck, they fought back and broke a code of silence that had covered up sloppy ship inspections for decades and revealed the flaws in old World War II rust buckets that were still at sea long past their functional lifetime.

Hidden gem
Revisado: 09-17-20
I wasn’t sure how there could be enough material for this book. There was. The narrator is different than most but I grew to like his style. This truly is a hidden gem.

If you listen to this and don't get a little emotional you could be soulless.

Historia
A fascinating personal memoir of underwater combat in World War II, told by a man who played a major role in those dangerous operations. Frank and beautifully written, this book will be of lasting value as a submarine history by an expert and as an enduring military and political analysis.

Could have been.
Revisado: 12-21-15
Not well written. Add to that a narrator that shows as much spark as a lobotomized person on ambien. Maybe the material wasn't that good. I don't know. Possibly it's because the author comes off pretty square as compared to Mush Morton, Dick Okane or Gene Fluckey. My advice spend your credit on "War below"

Historia
The unheralded story of how salvage helped the Allies win back North Africa. By the time America joined World War II, Edward Ellsberg had already earned his place as one of the world’s great marine salvage engineers, and his best-selling accounts of raising doomed submarines and histories of classic diving operations had made him a literary star.

A little acknowledged part of the war
Revisado: 08-21-15
Good story. However the narrator has the speed and conveys emotion with speech like I imagine the cartoon character Droopy would. I also think from listening to Ellsberg's books, in the forties or fifties we lost every thesaurus to the war effort. If we didn't he should have "turned to" on one. War is hell. Hell on using variable phrases and words.
