This is been one of the most enjoyable books
Revisado: 03-21-19
This has been one of the most enjoyable books I have listened to. I listen to a lot of books because of an eye injury years ago. Both the narrator and the author have combined their skills to capture beautiful moments of intelligence. The science behind this book is truly amazing and even more is the ease with which it has been integrated into a living story. I feel fortunate to have had the chance to listen to this and understand the inner workings of these great plants. When I learned that A local forest home to my family had been decimated and how my great grandmother had then suffered to raise her family without the benefit of food that accompanied the forest, I was through this book I began to understand this historical event realize the extent of their suffering. Forest give to us life and we as their nurturers must protect the gift that we are given. The revelation of that obligation comes gently as I listen to this book. The secret life of trees what is masterfully written and narrated. A must read to understand the world around you.

A more complicated story
Revisado: 06-17-16
This book by William Kent Krueger ends up being a much more complicated story then his previous writings. It is more about small-town life in Northern Minnesota them about Ojibwe culture and traditions. Still reasonably fast paced and enjoyable the narrative line of our hero continues to progress as does the complexity of his relationships with his family. Still a good read.

Depth and a good story make this book a success
Revisado: 05-22-16
There are several iron lakes in Minnesota the one close to Babbitt is also close then to Aurora. Can't Kruegers Aurora, seems to have more services than the Aurora I know. I am in Fond du Lac'er so some of the pronunciation of the words seem different to me, but it is generally close to our language. And of course we have different dialects. There are lots of Kruegers here in Minnesota, a popular German name. I have no doubt can't does not live far or didn't at one time, from the area he is writing about. Generally casinos are the largest employer in the area and they bring millions of taxable dollars into the economy, which is especially important for northern Minnesota. The average band member May earn a few thousand a year from the casino, most of the money goes to running things like medical clinics, wildlife programs, and senior citizen housing for our community centers. We manage the harvest of fish much more tightly them those outside the band, we have a very close accounting to the numbers of each species. Climate change is quickly injuring our forest and pipelines and Mining are a constant threat to our water. Copper mining can damage the ecosystem for over 500 years, but these are new battles in our homeland. Krueger paints a nice picture of rural northern Minnesota. He also tells a great story and once I started the book I could hardly wait to go back to it. That is high praise from a library/Media Specialist.

Historia
With compassion and candor, leading neurosurgeon Henry Marsh reveals the fierce joy of operating, the profoundly moving triumphs, the harrowing disasters, the haunting regrets, and the moments of black humor that characterize a brain surgeon's life. If you believe that brain surgery is a precise and exquisite craft, practiced by calm and detached surgeons, this gripping, brutally honest account will make you think again.

This is a easy to follow, but painful account of reality
Revisado: 07-23-15
I enjoyed this realistic account of a long series of brain surgeries that Henry marsh tells of his extended practice. Worth the time if you like medical stories. He seems to be an impatient man in his telling and somehow that seems

Stephen Coonts is a natural storyteller
Revisado: 01-25-15
Stephen Koontz is a natural storyteller, he spins a yarn like he's dreaming a dream. Rip and Charlie are great partners in this dynamic adventure and Uncle Egg makes sure to bring common sense to an uncommon world. If you read the previous two books you will enjoy this one. If not you've got some catch-up to do. Get on with it "saucer" is your starting place.
