Got me out of a reading slump!
Revisado: 07-21-23
This story grabbed me immediately, I very much liked the main character and I loved her dog ❤. I'm always more engaged in stories that include animals that play an important part of the story. I was engaged in the story all the way through and it had a couple of nice twists. Even though this is presented as a series it appears each book is a stand-alone and features different characters. I would have enjoyed following along with further adventures of Rowan and Thor, but I'm definitely going back to read the rest of the series.

A catastrophic pandemic ravages the globe, reducing the human population to extinction levels and cleansing the world of mediocrity. A doomsday prepper, a molecular geneticist, a journal-keeping loner, and a martial arts-trained nerd survive the disease that annihilated almost everyone else on the planet. Despite the miles between Kansas and California, Texas and Arizona, the four share a connection. They realize that not dying was the easy part. Now a year later, they navigate a bleak world...one without technology, without modern medicine, and without law and order.

Great story, terrible narrator and audio quality.
Revisado: 03-09-22
Really, really loved the story, great, likeable characters well fleshed out. This one is heads above most of the post-apocalypse I've tried to read lately and will definitely be reading more in the series. The sad part is the quality of the audio is awful, it's louder, then softer, clearer, then muffled. Easy to tell where it's been pieced together. The narrator is also sadly lacking, monotone, no energy or emotion, I want to listen to the rest of the series but I see it's the same narrator. Ugh.

I saw a post in a FB group about this series and decided I needed to check it out. I'm so glad I did!!! It kept me up very late listening, and then I jumped right back into it the next morning. I can't wait to start the next book in the series!

Beverly Cleary IS childhood
Revisado: 04-26-17
Loved hearing these stories from my childhood as much as I loved reading them back then. My only criticism was that the narrator used a horrible voice for Ellen's friend Austine. She sounded like a 70 year old woman...and not a very bright one. Just did not sound anything like a young girl would sound. The rest of the narrators did excellent jobs though, and these stories will always be classics.

Great Follow-up to Scabs: The Gemini Exception!
Revisado: 10-04-16
I loved the first book in this series (Scabs: The Gemini Exception) so much that I was almost afraid that the follow up couldn’t possibly make me love it as much. Have faith in this author, because he did it! Love, love Scabs: The Quantum Connection!!! I was so happy to be back among these characters that I had grown to love so much in the first installment as well as adding a new group of survivors, who come into the story from a very unusual and interesting place. The story just keeps ramping up with new threats and new revelations, and creatures that are evolving into something even scarier than they already were. The narration is top notch in this one, just as it was in the first. I found this is hard to stop once I started, so I suggest that you plan to be up all night and keep the lights on! I can’t wait for the third book in this trilogy.

I Love This Book!
Revisado: 10-04-16
I’m a huge fan of the zombie/apocalyptic genre, as well as a monster movie enthusiast practically from birth. This book brings us the best part of both worlds. It begins by introducing us to twin brothers, one living in Florida and the other living just over the US border in Canada, when a mysterious event begins that involves not only the brothers but everyone on the planet. The author is telling us two stories here simultaneously. He shows us how each brother is experiencing the phenomenon, how it impacts both themselves and the people close to them, and then he takes us on a journey. He does it deftly, alternating back and forth between each brother’s viewpoints. The brothers are smart and witty, and even though the twins were raised separately when their parents divorced, they still have a strong connection to each other which sometimes is almost telepathic. They know that they want to face whatever comes in this new world together, as a family. And what they face is very, very scary. The author is also the narrator, and he does an excellent job, giving each character a distinct voice, while always being maintaining a very smooth, easy to listen to sound. Once I started this audiobook, it was very hard to stop, so grab some Kleenex, leave some lights on and don’t start it too late in the evening, because if you do, you may miss work the next day

A Great Horror Story for an Entertaining Afternoon
Revisado: 03-16-15
I really enjoyed listening to this story. It had a great summertime feel to a very creepy story of possession. I liked the characters of the single Mom and two daughters very much, they seemed very real and had me rooting for them all the way to the end. All in all, a very enthralling tale with great narration that made it a pleasure to listen to. I noticed that this is to be a trilogy and after the twist that caught me completely off guard at the end, I can't wait for the next installment .

My New Favorite Audio Book!
Revisado: 09-24-14
Wow! Just WOW! I loved this book, its a very engaging thriller that will keep you going right to the end. I love the way this author uses colorful details of the lives of the characters to immerse me into the story until I feel like I can see, hear and feel whats going on, I feel like I'm right there! In that way it reminds of the best of Stephen King's earlier books. I was so engrossed in the story that it was hard to be pulled out of it and back into my own world. This was also narrated by the author who did a really great job with it. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

One of the BEST Zombie Tales Yet...
Revisado: 06-26-12
I've read ALOT of zombie novels and have started listening to them on Audible too (thank you Audible!) and this is one of the most engaging ones yet! Sue absolutely knows how to tell a story that grabs you from the beginning and takes you on a wild and wonderful ride through to the end. Her characters are likeable and she made me care what happened to them. I particularly like the heroine of her story, Lori, who is basically a Mom trying to save her family and is easily relatable. I've read so many zombie novels and horror novels in general that I'm not easily creeped out but there were places in this story that definitely made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and made me wonder if I really want to do housesitting out in the country by myself surrounded by way too many windows! I cared enough about the characters that there was also a part that had me desperately and discreetly wiping the tears out of my eyes before anyone could wonder why I was crying while I typed away on my keyboard doing mindless work. These are not your typical throw away characters who only serve the story as victims of the zombie hoards.
My only criticism was that the narrator could have used more emotion instead of at times sounding as if she was just reading to me, but she was very easy to understand and I did get used to her style as the book progressed.
Sue is a very gifted storyteller and I highly recommend this book and cannot wait until the sequel is released!
