Concise (as could be) but full of details.

Authentic to other tellings of their tales, but with greater detail of their travels.
Excellent narration at a considtent-and appropriate-speed. Pure genius!

Reader got in the way of the story
Revisado: 02-24-25
Reader sounded annoyed or angry throughout the entire book. Pretty off-putting. I think I would have liked this book better if I'd read a hard copy.

Historia
Lord Rosemorran has purchased a wax figure of a beautiful reclining woman and asks Stoker to incorporate a clockwork mechanism to give the Rosemorran Collection its own Sleeping Beauty in the style of Madame Tussaud’s. But when Stoker goes to cut the mannequin open to insert the mechanism, he makes a gruesome discovery: this is no wax figure. The mannequin is the beautifully preserved body of a young woman who was once very much alive. But who would do such a dreadful thing, and why?

I got bored. never happened before with this series
Revisado: 02-10-25
Unnecessary expanders to make book longer. Main characters are becoming less interesting. seems like the author needs to take a break.

Historia
In October of 2013, Drew Hayes began posting a story to his website. Written over the thirteen days leading up to Halloween, when each chapter ended the next step was chosen by the readers. Sometimes this led to great discoveries and triumphs, other paths led to Dead Ends, though even in those there was much to be gleaned. For ten years, this tradition occurred, until in the year of 2022, the readers chose a finale. This is their story: a tale of deaths and decisions that spanned a decade.

This one had the usual suspects as characters, but the story line got darker and darker. Not as much fun as his usual books.

Miss Mildred Percy is a spinster. She does not dance, she has long stopped dreaming, and she certainly does not have adventures. That is, until her great uncle has the audacity to leave her an inheritance, one that includes a dragon’s egg. The egg—as eggs are wont to do—decides to hatch, and Miss Mildred Percy is suddenly thrust out of the role of “spinster and general wallflower” and into the unprecedented position of “spinster and keeper of dragons.” But England has not seen a dragon since…well, ever.

lack of tempo change throughout despite story needing it.
Revisado: 11-15-24
Lack of any change in tempo, so the segments needing a quicker tempo to relay excitement didn't and ditto for the parts needing a bit of a slower tempo for emphasis.

There were times I thought about returning it.
Revisado: 03-10-24
I like Dean Koontz books, have read a few and listened to more. This one was not up to his standards. Was it written for a high school audience? One would hope adults thought through their decisions a bit more before acting on them.
The chosen reader for Amnity was awful. There was little indication that she even read her parts before recordings. If she did, t's pretty obvious from the strange phrasing of some sentences that she did not get the context of her dialog. Ditto for the "special agents" dialog. Husky bluster all the time was boring. A variation in speed or less dramatic delivery may have improved the book.
My final decision was to finish the book and not return it. I'm glad I did that, as the added segment was better than the 11 hours I'd spent listening to the main event.

At least that how it all begins, but this is St Mary's after all.

Only problem was that it was so short!
Revisado: 03-10-24
I always look forward to Jodi Taylor's Christmas specials and this one did not disappoint. As always, the narrator was spot on (I don't know how she controls her voice so well. I'm laughing during half the book!) The story moved fairly quickly at times so I found myself having to do a rewind --or was that due to missing some dialog while trying to control giggling? Looking forward to more books in the past.
